3 CH radio and mecanical breaks

Hello,

My Futaba 3PM FASST is on its way to my mailbox, so I'll have a 3 channel radio for my Revo conversion.

State of the Tranny: FOC, hardened pins, 1st gear removed, locked into 2nd gear using the 3 screws method (thanks BrianG and others!).

What I'd like to have: motor reverse (shouldn't be hard with the locked tranny) and mechanical breaks.

Thing is: I've never used a 3 channel radio before, so I don't really know how to handle the 3rd channel, much less how to wire it inside the truck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Loa

P.S. esc will be MMM if it matters.

Not sure if the radio will do the required channel mixes to do this.

Hello Lincpimp,

Isn't the stock 3ch Revo radio a standard 3ch? If so, why could it do it, and not the 3PM?

(I really don't know a lot about 3ch radios!)

I have the Futaba 3PM-Fs which I believe is basically the same radio as what you have except that it is not the 2.4 ghs. I just did a conversion w/ my mbx-5 and am using front brakes on ch.3 and 30% thru the esc. The mech. brake servo will be in ch.3 on receiver, esc ch. 2 steering ch. 1. First thing you need to do is turn on the third ch. The book on that radio can be confusing...it took me quite a while to learn how to use it...don't get discouraged. Once the 3rd. ch. is on you may have to reverse servo direction as I needed to do. With that radio you can reverse any servos direction. IF you plan on using mech. brakes, you CANNOT use reverse. Unfortunately, it is one or the other. Just don't forget to disable reverse in your esc if you use mech. brakes. hope this info helps....

Hello Magman,

Thx for the info. I don't have the radio right now (nor the MMM) so I can't experiment.

But my question remains: why can the stock Revo AM radio do mechanical brakes and reverse, and the 3 Channel Futaba can't?

Hello,

Other question: I'm not planning on using the reverse gear on the Revo, just reverse the motor since the tranny is locked into 2nd gear anyway.

Does that make a difference?

Just so I am clear...AFTER the FOC you were able to use reverse and mech.brakes w/ the stock radio?

Stock revo has a reverse gear setup in the tranny. When you converted it with the foc (foeward only conversion) it eliminates the servo actuated reverse. Most people remove reverse due to the weak gears. So you can either use mech brakes on the 3rd channel and no reverse, or use motor brakes (you can so that since your tranny is locked in 2nd) and have reverse.

NO, this cannot be done without a specific selectable mix. I would think only an air radio would be able to do that mix. Kind of like an idle up, or traning mix that is selectable via the radio switches (airplane guys should know what I am talking about)

I did not think that this could be done, just wanted to be sure i understood what he was saying
