MMM and Xray 808
I am gonna get a MMM and a Xray 808, I am having major trouble figuring out what I want for motor and battery, I know I want Neu motor and Neu 30c lipos. I want to gear it for approximately 50mph, I want it to accelerate like a 1/18th on 4s if you know what I mean. I am not sure if I should do a big motor like 1515 or 1521 and a 5000mah pack, or a small motor and shoot for a sub 7 pound buggy with a 1509 or 1512 and 6s 2500mah or 3s 5000mah, or is there a better combo to make this a super quick buggy? I am just going to bash this thing most likely. Help me build something sick.
Thanks |
I would go lighter 1512 will be ample 2.5d for it to fly on 5s!

First off, you want the 1512 cans. Anything longer and you would be wasting power and adding weight to your buggy. Anything smaller wouldn't be quite big enough. The 1512 is perfect for a buggy from what I have read.
Try the top speed calculator: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html With a 4S setup you'd want between 2500 and and 3300kv. For a 5s setup you'd want between 1800 and 2500kv. For 6s you'd want between 1500 and 1800kv. -Jeff |
The 1512 2.5D is a fantasicly powerful motor in a buggy on 5s. Actually a little more power than I want. I just set up my new 808 with the 1512/2.5D and the MMM on 5s. I was running a hacker B50 10XL (1578kv) on the R1Pro on 5s in my EC and originally just set it up in the new 808 the same way. It was a totally awesome powerfull yet very driveable setup. But I wanted to experiment a little so I tryed the Neu I had in another buggy and its a ran really nice on Tuesday night practice with the 2.5D and the R1Pro and 5s, except I at the end of the night I had the capacitor from the esc break loose and the wire shorted across the motor teminals on the R1Pro... well lets just say EVERY electronic component in the buggy fried except the motor. I mean every thing, the CC BEC, servo, reciever, fan and all.
I did get the R1Pro working again and ran another pack after changing all the other electronics out to stuff out of my EC, but after that it ran very hot so I'm not sure if the capacitor is just bad causing the esc to heat up of the esc itself was bad. So as luck would have it when I got home Wednesday night the MMM was here waiting for me. I was going to put it in my truggy, but I have the first big outdoor race of the season on Saturday night and I was going to change the capacitor on the R1Pro and put it back in the buggy but I dont want to take any chances having it overheat on me on the first race day so I tossed the MMM in the buggy untill I can get the R1Pro sorted out with more time. I'll let you know how it does on runtime and power with this setup, but I dont expect it to be any problem at all. The 2.5D was running fabulous before the sort out. But like I said, its actually a little to powerful of a motor for my taste based on what I saw on tuesday night, but that was on the smaller indoor track still, I am going to run it like this Saturday on the bigger track and see how it goes. I may wind up selling some extra stuff to raise some funds for a 1512/3D (1700kv) depending on how this weekend goes. EDIT: Forgot to tell you... Great choice on the 808. I freaking love this thing. Leaps and bounds better than anything else I have ever driven. This thing sets a whole new standard IMO. BTW...Heres a couple pics of the setup. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...8/CIMG3157.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...8/CIMG3156.jpg |
Hey JHautz, if you are interested, I would like to sell my 1512/3D/F Neu motor for an attractive price. PM me if interested.
|
I'll let you know after I get to run it this way over the weekend. Id have to do some selling before buying though. My RC budget is WAY overspent at the moment. New 808 and 2 MMMs this month:oh:. (one from CC and one from RCM). That didnt dent my RC budget it crumpled it up and torched it. If I buy anything I'll need to build up the paypal account buy selling some stuff first.

ICIC... well, no big rush here either. I am planning to get a 1515/1Y running on 7s2p, or 6s2p, I will see. The 1512 feels a bit 'small' for my 10 lb Revo at times, but still, it's a power house for sure! I might opt for the 6s2p option though, if you know what I mean.
Do you know when the new Neu motors come out? Are there any efficiency differences i wonder? |
jhautz did you get a smooth can motor to save weight? So a 1512 2.5d(2050kv) on 5s, or a 1512 1.5y (1850kv) on 6s would be a good setup? Would I have issues running a 1512 2.5d on 6s?

If you not concerned about a center diff, i would reccomend a Outrunner direct drive, I run an outrunner in my duratrax raze, my power system weighs about 1.5lbs with a reallllllllyyy big battery, (motor, mm, 4000mah 5s)
My chassis it self was 7lbs, so if the 808 is as light as they claim it would help alot and the acceleration is phenominal |
I dont want to lose the center diff

If you're going 6s, I wouldn't do anything over 1500kv. Just my $.02

I am strongly considering running 6s 2500mah 30/60c lipos, neu 1509/2Y 1820kv, and the MMM. I think I could have a near 6.5 pound buggy, with a 1500 watt setup, I wonder if it would run cool though? If I didnt like the setup I could always put it in a 1/8 onroad like a serpent and it should kick ass.

I cant really comment on the performane of a 1509 in a buggy. I havent run one or seen one run. I personally think it seems small, but have read that others have been having good luck with them.

Its a risk but I can always put it in something else, I have had big heavy setups before and am curious how it might perform. It is less risk than buying a 5000mah 6s pack for $350 and a 1515 or 1512.
