Monster 1st impresions & Neu 8T pics

Got my Neu 8T together night before last and Monster installed and functioning. Haven't it on the track yet but do have some initial impressions to share. Programing went extremely smooth. Apparently too smooth as when I finished I had no throttle. Steering worked but no power to motor. After reprogramming several times and flashing w/the newest version on the Castle Link, I was about to give up. Then I remembered Hautz's comment and the custom lvc which I had set at 12.2. Sure enough, read the settings and it had changed to 24v. I reflashed with the lvc at 12.0 and I was in business. I had fully planned to install manual brakes on the Truggy but after realizing I didn't have correct and or long enough linkage I completed assembly without the second servo installed and programmed 30% brake. Unlike the Quark, and to my surprise, one underway in front of my house I found the brakes to work extremely well and had excellent "feel" to them. If they work as well on the track as they do in the street I will abandon the manual brake plan. Also, the Monster is extremely smooth on take off. No brutal hit although I am programmed with 20% punch control till I get some track time and see if my PolyRC 3700 20c pack will handle the amps that the Monster is able to pull; I think it will be just fine for 5 min. qualies but time will tell. Planning to race it in San Antonio tomorrow so should have a more comprehensive report Sat. or Sunday. Pics:

Looks good, let us know how you go tomorrow

Nice, I look forward to seeing how it goes.

Very nice, clean install. I have the punch control turned off on mine, but I'll be playing with it today, along with throttle/brake curves. Ran it in my emaxx yesterday, will be going in the hyper 7 today.

be careful your MMM's wire that is go to receive. It's too close with the center dogbone.

I appreciate your concern but it is actually well above the dogbone; flush with the plate that covers the center diff. The pics just create an optical illusion,

I just ran my 8xl e-8ight as well on just 4s and I love it. I'm just about pulling wheelies on wet pavement. Tomorrow I try it on 5s. :D

2nd Impression

Raced with the Mamba Monster this weekend. I did one 3 min. practice, two 5 min. quallies and a 15 min. main. Never pushed it hard as I wanted to monitor temps for the first few on-track runs. I was givin' it about 85% and turning lap times 2-3 seconds off "nitro expert pace". Not knowing for sure if I would be able to make 15 min.s in the main, I avoided "hammering" on it. I ended up burning 4350mah of my 5000mah, 20c pack and the controller temped @ 115 degrees, battery @ 103 and 1515/1y @ 139. The Monster performed admirably. Extremely smooth, just like in front of the house, and didn't complain the few times I near full throttle poped it over the triple(now a tabled double). Only thing I intend to change are the brakes; need to be @ 40 or 50% instead of 30 for track purposes. This weekend I'll be @ my home track and intend to push the pace and really put the Monster to the test. Hopefully, next weeks report will be a good one too.

hey chapito...where did you get that battery tray from...or did you make it?....and if you made it how did you do it?...sorry for all the questions...just curious...

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.20.2008 04:00 AM

Seems like your having a blast, what connectors are you using to connect the esc to the motor? & where did you get the sticker on the chassis?
Keep us updated on how it is going

The blue side of the tray is the last remaining part I have left from my Fine Design nightmare. It's crappy with only the two "rubber band" tie downs he supplies but with a front bracket and Gorilla strap it works very well; still use the bands to secure the batt. wires. Underneath the tray is a piece of 1/8 inch plate supported by the original motor mounts, pipe wire mount and 1 nylon spacer in between. Clean settup but the CG is too high on the stock mounts. I intend to purchase the two piece Nitro motor mount and cut the spacers in half to lower it half the distance to chassis and eventually replace the alluminum plate with carbon fiber.

5.5 connectors to the motor, lizard is the sticker off the bottom(removed for better sticky tape adhesion and could'nt just throw the lizard away:yes:) and I intend to report one more time after next race. If all is well then I won't update unless I run into issues.

Lucky.

So you racing here this week end? I'm still out of cars at the moment. Nothing is running and I haven't had time/money to fix it.

Later.
