normal to see a spark when connecting deans plug lipos?

im running mmm, 2 x 2s lipo packs with dean connectors. everytime i connect the second lipo pack, it would make a small spark on the deans connectors. is this normal? it dont matter what lipo i plug in first...the second one will always be the one sparking.

Yes, totally normal;

the capacitors have got a resistance of about 0 ohm when they are empty; as soon as you plug the batteries in they will start charging.

There is a trick to avoid this though, Check out BrianG's site.

oh..this isnt when im charging...this is when im about to run my truck haha.

the capacitors on the speed controller will charge up as soon as you plug in the batteries. When they are empty (the capacitors on the speedcontroller) they have got a resistance of about 0 ohm. This changes as soon as their voltage rises.

It's completely normal that you see a spark as soon as you plug the batteries into the speedcontroller. (for driving, and not for charging)

The reason why the 2nd one sparks is because this last cell you hook up with close the chain (electricity-wise) No matter how you plug them in, there will be a spark. (unless you follow the directions as mentioned on briang's site.)

When I first plugged my MMM in for the first time there was a massive spark. The next day though and the other times I plugged it in there was barely anything.

Yeah its normal, pissed me off though, my bro came down for his yearly visit with all his RCs and all keen to see my erevo in action, out in the dunes ready to go. doesnt work. Upon closer inspection the terminals in the F socket which i always did second were all black and corroded and crap on the inside, and it wasnt making contact.

You should've seen when I hooked 60V on my 40.160. I hooked t up 3 times to see if it armed ok and that was it for the Deans :lol:. I still have the Deans in my tool box just to remind me of what can happen :lol:.

What are you using now instead of deans?
