Lazer ZX-5 = ultimate gf or wife buggy
3 Attachment(s)
I gotta say this buggy is awesome, its one tough act to really compare to any other rtr electric in its price range, my gf has now put about 3 hours ( and me one) behind the buggy and nothing has broke :yipi: talk about a real beginner crash test car too, wot into the pipes at the track and it just shugs it off and keeps on going. its not super fast but it makes up for it in handling BIG TIME. A little comparison I ran consistant 51 second lap time around the track (basically full throttle everywhere) and my BEST times wiht my LS10 are only 48 seconds im lucky to average 51 with it, but the lazer is so incredibly easy to drive its not even funny. the gf is already talking about it needs a tame brushless to be just a little faster so she can clear these two smaller jumps on the track that its having trouble with. It has to be easy to drive, my gf was could run 6-7 clean laps averaging about 60 seocnd times with me ever having to flip it over or her having to back up, and this was her first time at the track too.
Sorry if it seems as tho im trying to sell these off to everyone but this is the ultimate beginer buggy, aluminum shocks, full universals, balldiffs, great handling and 4wd on top of that......im just really impressed ive only had two problems one is the cut out under the spur gear lets dirt or little rocks get packed into the spur gear and will cause alot of drivetrain binding and nosie, and as all 1/10th scale buggies the wing didnt last no time at all with my gf driving. so i made a little soft plastic gear cover, and a wing made out of the bottom of a clorox jug  (saw that in pit tips in some magazine except with a milk jug), the stock tires work surprizingly well despite having tall nobs and no foam inserts at all, these will be the next upgrade. :mdr: so what ya think of the clorox wing and skid? guess i need to get her a 4600 sidewinder system to run on the 5000 venom stick packs, or maybe ill jsut wait till she wears the stock brushed motor out. or tell her she can buy it.... |
Nice looking buggy, how much was it? What are you currently running in it?
|
i only payed 200 for it and was given two venom 5000 stick packs for helping out the hobby shop owner get his b44 and his sons lazer zx both setup on brushless/lipo and doing alot of soldering for them and others,
but right now its the stock esc which is surprisingly smooth and TINY and i think it comes with a 21 turn single motor. top speed on the venom packs is about 20-22mph, (25 minutes of runtime on the track) makes its fast enough to get around the track fairly quick and slow enough to make me look like a GREAT driver lol, i will definetly get me one after i finish my truggy. throw a side winder system in it and steal one of her stick packs and id be setup, also there are about 5-7 of these exact same rtr buggies at the race kinda becoming a spec class just buy the buggy and run the hell out of it basically. |

i think thats what he ment, there are a ton of 4wd buggies out now : hotbodies d4, b44, losi xxx-4, tamiya has 3, the 2 kyosho lazer models, and still the BJ4 is popular, also schumacher is coming back out with a new CAT, there were alos two other new buggies that arent quite out yet.
4wd electric is becoming the most popular class i think. |
I have the lazer zx-5 sp with an mm5700 in it and agree it is a great buggy! it is not as durable under BL power, I have broken a chassis, both shock towers and a motor mount, but my wife enjoys driving it.
here is mine: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17...sp/alldone.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17...x5sp/done2.jpg |

How did you break a chassis, must a been a serious wreck, there are two of the rtr lazers at the track runnning brushless, one a vxl system and one a mm4600, one of them hasnt broke anything and the other broke a front hub.
my guess is those graphite shock towers are little more fragile, because you should have seen the hits the front was taking when my gf kept grabing too much brake too soon off one of the big jumps at the track, she honestly did it 5-6 times about 4 feet down rgiht on the front tower. |
On my BJ4 I ran two woven front shock towers glued together to make it stronger, not sure if this can be done on this buggy
