Mamba Monster fires.
Hey guy's,
I just received a disturbing call from my hobby shop mate, www.rcgarage.com , asking if I'd heard of any MMM's catching fire. Has anyone heard of this happening?? We're thinking that it's possible with stupid people, running stupidly powerful &/or crap motors, crap batteries &/or incorrect gearing. Any thoughts? BTW, I ran mine today in my CRT with Neu & a maxxamps 14.8 6000mAh & it was a rocket, think I have to tone it down alot, so, those nitro's have half a chance at keeping up!! Also, is the internal BEC adjustable to increase the output to 6V? If so, how? |
Check out this topic about increasing the output on the BEC http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11957

Thanks for that DB.
Hey, where in Aust are you? |
Its certainly possible to incinerate one if you do something bad. You can do it to any controller. I have had a few controllers go up on me in the past, but not a MMM yet. I did read somewhere about one going up, but it sounds like they had a severe battery wire short that caused the problem. I wouldnt think there is any more problem with the MMM than any other controller on the market.

The only real problem I see with the Monster versus other controllers, is that the price point and relative ease of setup has potentially put a very powerful controller into the hands of morons who will not set it up properly.
I can't tell you how many threads I have already seen on the traxxas boards alone trying to use the monster with crap setups and then arguing ensues when you don't agree with them. People see to think there is some cheap way to get into brushless in monster trucks and 1/8th scale which I think is a big culprit for potential problems. |
Central Qld? Too far to visit our track in Vic.
I agree Tex. I started with my BLST on the cheap side, but, after seeing my mate toast a motor & ESC I decided to go a high quality ESC & batteries. Motor's (Feigao) are cheap enough to trash. I think I may have solved the problem of the BEC not providing enough power too.........my Spektrum Pro receiver was glitching a bit at the track, so tonight, I swapped it for one of my Spektrum Micro Pro's (brand new) & the wheels would turn on the carpet easily. However, I've yet to try it on the grass. |

The glitching could also be caused by dirty receiver pins, especially the signal pin. Or, maybe the antenna wire is broken (either partially or intermittently). I had a Spektrum receiver that glitched. After I replaced the antenna wire, the glitching went away. |
Thanks for that Brian, I'll check it out tomorrow.
Bedtime for me. |
Say what you will. :mdr:
I may indeed be stupid but this was run with a Neu 1512/1.5/D/F and a Polyquest 25c 5000 mah 4s pack. And it was geared 11t/46t in an MBX-5. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...astyMMM002.jpg |
That looks just like mine! Castle says it's probably cuz my motor (7xl) got demagged.

Not to mention the rules are very "fluid" there. I got 20 warning points for the word "crap" and then the same day saw several posts/threads with the same word (and worse) with no repercussions. Needless to say, I don't go there very often.
That's ok though because I get tired of the same questions over and over and over and over and over again. I feel like telling them to sell their vehicle and get a Tyco because the stupidity level of the questions shows they aren't ready for such a vehicle. |

Thanks for sharing your meltdown Mark. It must have been one of those bulletproof ones. |
