New battery for rc18

I just finished rebuilding a brushless rc18t I bought from/traded a member here, and now I am in need of a battery. I am running lipo in my other 2 trucks so I might as well go lipo with this one to. Plus the decrease in weight, and more power is also a bonus.

So anyway, I would like to stick to a more known company and would like to stick to 2s. I am running the Mamba 6800 motor, so it won't be too insane, but should have plenty of power. I am also looking for the highest mah pack that could possible fit without any mods to the chassis. At the moment, the three highest mah packs I have found are these:
http://b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=i_hyp1800_2s
and
http://b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=g_hyp1500_2s
and
http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-1550-74-Pack.htm

I know people here aren't the biggest fans of Max Amps packs, but I was thinking that their mini packs can't be too bad...

So what would you guys recommend between the three? And are there any others I should take a look at? Please keep the price in mind, as I would prefer to spend as little as possible.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

That looks like a really nice battery especially with the the assurance that it won't swell, puff or catch fire. The only problem is that not only is it too long, it is also too wide...

I just measured the battery tray on the rc18 and it can fit a battery that is:
32mm wide, 20mm tall, and 100mm long.

these 2400's I am using. I have an 18B with a 6800. I also have a venom 1600 but the 2400 is my fav because I get insane runtimes

Sorry. My fault for not looking at the size.

I have run the hyperion packs and thought they were ok, a 3s 1800 with a Hyperion yc-22 motor in a rc18.....I prefered the Hyperion motor to the Mamba 6800 , My first choice would be a flightpower pack but it is 6mm too long I dont know if you could trim material to fit and if that doesnt work my 2nd choice is the Zippy good bang for the back

the zippy is a little wide but can fit with a little dremel work

Thanks for all the links guys. All of the batteries look good. I have never heard of such a small 2400mah pack though. Really interested in it.

Just one question: What type of balance plugs are these? "Jst hx align balancer plug" Are they compatible with Flightpower, Thunderpower or Hyperion taps? How would you go about changing them if they were not compatible...?

Alright Josh! Bought a mini also LOL! The team AE minis are awesome, im waiting for the Novak Mongoose though, along with a Exotek R18 chassis kit

I am running some flight power 1320's in 2s, there only like 60 mm long, and 34 mm wide, perfect fit in the R18 chassis, but there 18C

I have the RC 18R & run a cheap chinese 3s 1800mAh with a 9200kv motor on 30% power for 25-30min run times & it's still a rocket.

These pics were taken before the addition of the lipo, rear alloy hinge pin retainer & front carbon shock tower.

All upgrades are 3 Racing.

pipeous 05.23.2008 08:46 AM

Do yourself a favour...the number one upgrade to get is the driven productions gear cover. 12.99 at thetoyz.com and will save you alot of clicky grief.... that is the major downfall of these things. crap getting into the spur. I carry a bag of parts and am almost out of spurs, supplying my buds. I am still on the first spur. we run at a dirt track we built in the trees at a park...

That said, I run my 18B more than any other rc and I have only broken a wing mount. We hit the track 2-3 times a week and it has improved my driving skills (lord knows I needed help there) a ton. I finally beat a driver that has schooled me for many, many years last weekend.

I had an 8000kv motor and hated it. even with the 6800, I have my endpoint set to 90% to make it driveable as going over jumps if you nose down and need to throttle, it would want to backflip at 100%. same with brake is turned down to 85%. our track is fairly tight so it makes for close racing.

Or is there some adapter available to purchase?

skellyo 05.23.2008 01:23 PM

What type of balancer do you have?

Mozzy 05.23.2008 01:44 PM

Pipeous, it's an onroad car only.

It also has the alloy gear cover on the bottom. All gears except pinion are stock.

E-sav 05.23.2008 01:50 PM

Pipeous, does that 2400mah pack get warm? I ask as because it is meant to be a receiver pack only, the discharge rate isn't exactly great. 12 amps would make me think twice about running it in my MLST.
