giving up on mamba monster

I know many people have run a mm with 4s successfully. :yipi: Does anyone have any reports of one dying on 4s? I really don't want to get this thing and then fry it if I bash hard.:gasp: Im going to be running a 9xl with it (in a Savage)

The issues uncovered thus far are not voltage-related, but from either a bad batch of a specific component, or the fan.

As long as you keep the current within the ESC specs, it shouldn't fry.

I find this, a bit funny. Everyone was mad, because they took their time, Now everyone is mad at castle because of something they can't control. What happened to the acceptable amount of defects? Everyone expects perfection. I wouldn't worry about a few BEC failures, castle has the best support

im not giving up because the mmm doesnt work, i just thought id go for a mm since im not running above 4s...and the mmm is still out of stock like everywhere

Mozzy 05.25.2008 12:57 AM

Finedesign has them & for only $170.

Well, they did last time I checked.

pretty hard to go past bpp's mmax for $114 free delivery :) speccy if u live on the other side of the world like me :)

Are you going to leave the 2 speed and mech brakes in the savvy? If so the MM should work fine. You will need an external bec, like the ccbec, and remove the red rec wire on the MM to disable the internal bec. Depending on how much airflow you have inside the body, you may need a fan on the MM. Otherwise they are a decent esc for 4s usage. Plus you cannot beat the price and versatility!

My Mamba Monster died today. As far as I was aware it is more than capable of running a Neu 1515/1.5D/2700Kv on a 4s.

It was running fine all day till the arvo & it just went dead, not even the fan works. Checked all wiring & nothing's loose or broken.

Do I send it back or just bin it?

What would you do? Anyone?

BrianG 05.27.2008 09:46 AM

If it just died with no burnt smell or smoke, it sounds like you have one of the ones with the faulty BEC. Give Castle a call and they'll set you up.

Mozzy 05.27.2008 10:27 AM

I didn't see smoke, but, it has a very slight smell.
Maybe the fan?

What a hassle to return. Oh well, lucky I have another one while this goes back.

I run mine on 5s all the time, runs cool with a 600 kv outrunner

Mozzy 05.27.2008 10:52 AM

This Neu is rated for 120amps, but, the battery could only supply 76amps. If anything went it should've been the battery, right?

Sammus 05.27.2008 06:44 PM

If you have a look at the castle creations section on this forum you'll notice that the first run of mamba monsters had a higher failure rate because a faulty component in the bec or something, its not because you over loaded it or anything.

If you're gunna chuck it in the bin, I'll pay the postage and you can give it to me instead, I'd be more than happy to pay another $20 registered insured postage from australia to kansas for castle to replace it no questions...

tc3_racer_001 05.28.2008 01:38 AM

hehe, nice try!

ill pay $50 for it...

anyway. didnt castle mention that weak batteries can drain the caps and cause backflow or something and ruin it that way? they recommend a minimum of 75A cont. so 76 is very fine. id suggest going with 100A just to be safe :)
