whats the best charger i can get to charge lipos and a123s . And will any lipo charger charge a123s. thank you

Most of the new hyperion chargers can do a123 and lipo.

Hyperion offers both AC/DC powered and DC only chargers. I bought the 0606i to do a123s but have started into lipos with it also. Does either equally well and features an internal balancer so you can balance on every charge withouty doing anything additional besides hooking up balance tap.

will my Hyperion EOS0610i speed charge A123 cells? How long will it take to charge them (aprox.)? Thanks

I dont have any expierence w/A123 but from what I have read and heard they have a charge time of 15 mins

If you can push 10amps thru them, or a 4c charge rate. Not too many chargers can do this.

I can charge a 3s A123 pack in under 10 min. That is why My truck runs a pair in series. (I can charge 2 at a time :)).

That said to get fast charge times you will not do it with the Hyperion. I think most are limited to 10 amps or so. I think with CV that means you will take about 20+ min for a full charge. For A123's Look into Zip charging. Do NOT ever zip charge a Lipo!!!!

Since 1p is 2.3Ah, charging at 10A will take about 14 minutes. A 2p will take twice as long to charge, so ~28 minutes.

Despite the assurances from various people, I don't recommend ZIP charging. It can be done safely if you know what you are doing, but there are too many variables to consider (battery charge level, resistance of wire, power supply voltage, etc) to be a viable method for most users . It is basically taking a long piece of ZIP wire (basically 16-18GA lamp cord) and charging A123s directly from a power supply through the wire to your cells. This method relies on the overall resistance of the wire, which varies with length and guage. This resistance limits the charge current. And if you do decide to do this, ONLY DO IT WITH A123 CELLS! A123 cells are more "forgiving" when it comes to charge current.

It really is a 3s charge system from most people. There is also a db terminator device that makes it really easy.

I run 6s so that I can use 2 3s packs. Since I charge 2 packs at once my setup is charging at 30+ amps :) The best thing is the cheap route costs you under $10.00 for everything you need. add another 10.00 if you want a db terminator. So for under 40.00 you can charge 6 a123 cells in under 10 min.

Brian don't forget that when using a charger the CV will really slow down the last 10% of the charge. I would say he could get 14 min to 90% charge.
