Slow Charging Lipos
just wondering how many slow charge your lipos, i hadnt done it this way in a while and for some reason my 5s 5k battery took 5890mah charging at .5c, so charge time was around 3 1/2 hours with the trickle included
just wondering if it is worth doing more often....... |
I always do the one hour charge..

i do to , but when i charge at the normal 5 amps i only put back in 4600mah including the trickle, just a bit suprized at how much went back into the pack

Does the lipo get warm charging at 5a? IF It does, the diff may be heat loss due to IR at the higher rate. Just a guess.....

it make sense... when you slow charge the battery takes more... when you are charging at 5 Amps... and it takes 4600 mAh.. that sounds about right... Obviously your LiPos weren't completely drained before charging...

When you discharge them the voltage drops due to the amp draw. When you charge them it does the opposite. You've all seen the Eagle Tree graphs, right? When the battery has a large load the voltage is lower than with a smaller load. Same with charging only the voltage goes up (duh). So, what Cpt. Obvious is trying to say is that a higher charge rate will cause the battery to hit the peak voltage sooner than it really should and so it starts to trickle before it has a chance to take in more mAH. Slower charging is technically more efficient because the battery reaches the same voltage but absorbs more of the charge that was put into it.
EDIT: If you are balance-charging don't pay any attention to what I said! :lol: When you balance-charge at a slower rate, most of the extra mAH the charger says it put in comes from the extra charge that was "balanced out" over the longer period of time. |
Other than any "wasted" charge thru a balancer as mentioned there should be very little difference in charge % between 1C and c/2. In fact There is little difference between c/100 and 3C chargeing. I doubt it could be measured and repeated without a number of tests/packs.
