looking into buying a new radio.
 

hey guys im looking into upgrading my radio. i currently have a nomadio react radio. i like it but its getting outdated. not many sites sell there products any more and RX's are very expensive for it.

i was looking into getting ether a futaba 3pk with the fasst system or a m11 with the dsss system by airtronics.

im going to be using it for drag racing and i heard spektrum does not have the range u need and the fasst system was a better system.

i have owned a m8 befor and i loved it. and looking at the m11 i should be ever better.

as for pricing the m11 would be the cheapest to go with since i carry it at work. and i would be able to get a good price on it same with RX's


just wanted to get your guys input and see what radio is the best to go with.

Go for the DX3R... ;) not sure if the range is better but it's suppose to be a sick radio

I agree with the DX3. I have a Nomadio Sensor myself and I am still in the learning curve with it. There has been a lot of comments in here on different radios and the DX3 seems to be a very popular piece of gear that has good reviews. Good luck with your choice.:lol:

if range is what you are concerned about I know of a mod that will triple the range of a 2.4 ghz spread spectrum radio let me know if you are interested

I am interested. just how much trouble is the upgrade? And what is the overall cost of the change? The Nomadio Sensor 2.4 Ghtz already boasts a range of 1,000 feet. So whats the scoop?

IMO you shouldnt need more than 1,000 feet I think that is beyond the distance you can see you vehicle

the dx3r has greatly improved range over the dx3. I am able to play near a power station and get my rc's over 1000 feet away with no glitching. past 1000 feet I have to walk up a bit though since with all but my revo I have lost visual.

I had a 3pm with fassst and the response felt clunky compared to my dx3r. I'm aware a 2.4 3pm is not a 3pk by any means, but I was not impressed with the fassst system.

the dsm2 frm the dx3r is so smooth. given the 2 you mentioned I would go with the m11, which feels huge in my little hands.

I'll stick with my dx3r any day, small, very light, only takes 4 AA, and incredibly smooth.

though i have not used a dx3r i really like the looks and hear good things about them... on the other hand i DO have a nomadio react and love it. Has many many features that the others may lack. I love the alarms for LVC or temps, also 4ch, computer programmable, ABS and more.

I have seen those guys use them. The range is greatly improved over stock, but it's used for speedruns. Dragracing only requires 300 feet range, and of that the first 132 feet is used for the actual dragrace.

The DX3R is a great choice, thats what i'm going to get. I know a guy that has one and we used the "traxxas" method (two way radios, one guy carries the truck and one guy carries the radio the opposite way until the guy with the truck says it is no longer responding to tx inputs) to check the range, it was good for just over 4100 feet:surprised:. Keep in mind this was over open pasture though. :whistle::yes:

Nomadio React getting outdated? IMO all other radios are playing catch-up.

Sure, the RXs are expensive, but that's because they aren't just simple RXs. They are transceivers, where they communicate with the TX (which is also a transceiver). No other surface radio on the market has this feature that I am aware of. Spektrum comes close, but their telemetry system is separate from the radio.

BTW, after the past weekend I think even less of the Spektrum stuff and yes even the dx3r. 3 dragsters lost signal, which resulted in major damage. It was with 2 nitro and 1 electric vehicle. The DX3R looks nice and finally all digital throughout like Airtronics and Nomadio(and believe that both run @100hz frame rate), but if it looses signal within 2 seconds.......pffff what a waste of money. My airtronics has not let me down yet.

I run a tq3 with a custom 3rd channel switch I found at radio shack. It is a much better radio than anything else listed. It has a cushy steering wheel, and a special shape on the handle that fits my hand like a glove. It also has these special crystal thingys, not sure what they are, but they sound expensive. Expensive sounding stuff always makes products better! Plus it is a cool grey color, that makes it work better too. It even has an adjustable length antenna, so if you are short, you can still get it to broadcast height.
