8th scale project help
I just really cant make up my mind LOL, every time I want to do a new project, racing takes over, so this time I will be racing my project:mdr: I cant decide between buggy, or truggy...
Buggy, lighter so I can use less motor, less battery... Some people are running NEU 1509's? Or should I do a 1512, or something equal to that? Truggy, Will handle better, easier to drive, but I need more motor, and would like higher voltage, so probably 5-6s lipo, and a 1515 or something that size So far im thinking buggy, just because it will probably be cheaper to build up, but thats why im here asking. For a buggy I will buy a RC8, or a Losi, possibly HB's For a Truggy, RC8T, or a HB's... Looking like AE just because I know there fast, HB's might be Imput? And yes, my 18R is about finished, so its new car time:na: |
I know that skellyo is trying out a 1509 motor... I'm pretty sure its in his MBX5. So I'd wait for him to report back on how it does, before choosing between the 1509 or 1512. From talking to Mike a while back, he said that the RC8 turns better than the Losi and has better handling. But the 8ight is also easier to convert, and is tougher overall... you just have to debate what is more important for you...

For a buggy, the medusa v2 36/60 motors are great, and cheap too, about 125 shipped. Similar in size to a 1512, and have similar construction. Half the price, and almost as good from what I can tell, and what everyone else seems to think. I run the 1500kv model in my hyper8 on 6s lipo. I am using fp 2170mah 25c cells and a quark 125b. Everything is running cool, and I have tons of power.
I have a build thread on the buggy here somewhere... |
Here's the thread linc was talking about:

I was wondering about those motors, havent really followed them because they are smaller, but for a buggy sounds perfect! Im LOVING the price!
So heres the plan, tell me what you guys think, gearing for 35-40 mph, run times 20-30 mins I think would be max I could get... I need longer, but I dont know how I can pull that off, and have the batt fit under the body.... AE RC8 Medusa, dont know on KV Tekin R1PRO, CC bec AE DS1313 servo 3PK S, with FASST I want to run 5s, something cheap, like this? Would this fit under the body? http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16870 Anyone use those, or have any comment on them? James, your getting 20 mins of runtime on 6s 2170's I think I read, so what would 5s 4K get? I know these arent name brand, but for 100 bucks, thats perfect pricing. Which helps me out alot |
I will vouch for the Protek packs. I have a 3s 4000 in my Stampede and 2 2s 4000 in my E-maxx and absolutely love them! They do have a tendency to swell up a bit, so leave an extra tad of room on each side of the battery tray.

Swell up? lol That doesnt sound good
Hows runtime in your maxx? Whats the set up in it? |
