Venom LiPos vs. Apogee LiMn?
 

I'm trying to decide between some Venom 1800 20C packs, or some Apogee Magnum 2200 packs for my MT2 (both 11.1V) that I will be running in parallel as a saddle pack.

These seem to be the best options based upon the size constraints for my preferred mounting points.

My questions is how do they compare to each other? I have a few other Apogee packs and they seem to deliver a pretty good punch, although they don't always deliver out their full mAh rating. I don't know anything about the Venom packs. FWIW, the Apogee packs are also $20 less, each.

Go for lipos!

While the limn are safer, they are heavier, and the whole point (IMO) of swapping to lipos is saving weight while getting longer run time, more power etc

I have some of the venom 1800 packs, and do not think that they are any better than maxamps. I would go with the other packs you listed, especially if they are cheaper.

Cool. Thanks to you both for the input. I'm more concerned about amperage delivery than weight. The difference between LiPo and LiMn in terms of weight is negligible IMHO. The Venom's were an unknown quantity for me however. It looks like they aren't any great shakes, especially with a price premium.

I did look at Thunder Power, Polyquest, Hyperion, Flightpower, etc. Unfortunately I couldn't find any packs from them that were short enough, length-wise, yet still had a sufficient capacity. They all tend to have very long cells. If I was going to be able to run a standard stick configuration that wouldn't be a big issue, but these need to fit side by side behind the center spur gear.

I have had real good results with the Apogee batts as well.

BlackedOutREVO - Yes, this is going into a HPI MT2.

What about some A123 cells? They can be configured into a brick type of form factor, and can handle tons of current - not to mention being safer than lipos and the super fast charging capability. They will be heavier though and pricey...

I think zippy has a wide variety of 3s availble in that Mah range also. they are always nice to the budget.

I did check out the A123 cells. The three cell pack is a little too tall for my current plan. I'm trying to keep my carbon fiber upper deck intact to help maintain some rigidity in the chassis, so the that limits the height of the packs I'm looking at. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I agree with the others - the Apogee packs are FAR superior to the Venom packs(venom is notoriously low price/quality IMO). The Apogee Limn packs are a touch heavier than a comparable lipo (10%?), but they are durable and powerful.
