Revo/Tekno Conversion Questions
I put in the Tekno conversion for the Revo a couple weeks ago. Since then, I've been fighting heat issues. I'm using a 8XL with a Mamba Monster running on 2 7.2V GP3300 packs in serial. With the basic 15T clutch/38 spur and 2 speed standard trans gearing, I'm measuring temps of 120 on the 8XL, 98 on the MMM, and 165 on the battery packs (this on a 90+ degree day) after about 12 minutes of runtime. Of course, the batteries are concerning me at this point. From the various posts, it sounds like I need to drop down on the clutch bell teeth and/or increase the spur teeth count (correct I hope).
So, to get around the questions, what would be the recommended gearing for an 8XL running on NiMH (12 cells)? I'm not looking for race speed - just some bashing around the backyard. One other questions - I've been setting up my eLogger, but can't seen to find the pole count for a Feigao 8XL. Anyone know what the specs are for it? |
the 8xl is a 2 pole, and your batteries are going to overheat unless you really gear down.
try a 40 tooth spur first then go to a 14 tooth clutchbell. im guessin 14/40 would be a good gear to start at for nimh's. |
The ESC is only 8* above ambient, and the motor is only 30*F above ambient (pretty good for a Feigao). The battery packs do seem hot though at 75* above ambient. Are they fairly new, or tired old packs? If you don't mind losing a bit of top speed, gear down a bit (either increase the spur and/or decrease the pinion).
If you don't want any losses in top speed, try dialing in a bit of punch control in the ESC. This will make your launches a little more tame, but be gentler on the batteries. |
I'm going to drop down to the 14/40 combo and give it another try. I put them in this morning and starting messing with the eLogger trying to get the RPM set up correctly instead of going out and playing with the new gearing.
I have 2 sets of GP3300 packs. One set is new and the other is older. Both give nearly the same readings. The old packs didn't have much use on them. I'll try the punch on the ESC. I didn't think about that. Thanks for the help! |
