Ebay MT 100 amp esc

Anyone tried this?I searched but nothing came up. http://cgi.ebay.ca/100A-ESC-Brushles...QQcmdZViewItem By the specs it looks good for the 8xl or the medusa 36-60-2000 that I have coming.I currently have the MM with bec, would I be better off chancing it on 5s? If no one on here has tried this yet I'll probably go ahead and guinea pig it.

I bought a 60amp one to try as a ginuea pig. I haven't had any problems with it in a xxt with a 380 size 4800 L can on 3s. I don't really know what I am feeling, but something midway on the bottom of it gets pretty warm, quickly, but doesn't get any hotter as you mess with it. The heatsink doesn't really ever get hot. It seems to work really well. It does kind of bother me they don't have a warranty, so if it doesn't work, and fry's on 5s, could have used the money to go towards something better. I just ordered one of the 100a versions. Kind of a gamble I guess. Here is where I bought it from, I am fairly sure it is the same controller you are looking at. Made them an offer they couldn't refuse I guess! I already had the programming card from when I bought the 60 amp, so It was cheaper for me to get it from here. On you first one I think you'll come out ahead on the other one since it comes with it. The program card in the redflag auction looks just like mine.

Junkman: The heat on the bottom of the ESC is probably the BEC circuit because you are running 3s. To be sure, temporarily disable the BEC and use an Rx pack and feel the heat. I bet it will be gone.

asheck: What about this ESC? 200A @ up to 7S. Lower price if you feel like taking a chance. Supposedly works with pistol grip radios if the review is accurate.

Well glad to hear your having good luck with something similar. They do look very similar,But the 1 I linked to has the program card with it and says they will exchange for 30 days.So hopefully that would give me enough time to test it with a descent motor,if it frys Ill exchange it,and if it doesn't work good,I'll throw it with a l motor in my pede or something. What offer did they accept on yours? Brian, isn't that a plane 1 with no reverse?I love my reverse, especially in a non turning maxx :)

junkman 06.05.2008 12:23 PM

I was kind of thinking that might be what it was, since it didn't really get any hotter with use. I didn't really know exactly where that circuit was located. I have an extra ubec so I think I will stick that on there and see what happens. I was kind of wondering about the fan as well. Since I read that it runs off the bec and might be the cause of some failures on other controllers, might be a good idea to run this one off the ubec as well. Asheck pm sent.

A fan doesn't draw nearly as much current as servo(s) do, especially in something heavy like a MT. So, even if you can't (or don't want to) move the fan off the internal BEC, just moving the servos to a UBEC will help.

As to other ESCs failing because of the BEC; I wouldn't assume that just yet. MGM has a UBEC in it and it works fine. I don't think anyone has truly nailed down the BEC as being the problem on the MMM. The one on your ESC is a linear regulator, which is much simpler yet a lot less efficient on anything over 2s, which is why it gets warm.

Thanks for the help. I will at least get the servo on a ubec, and go from there.

I'll be watching this thread. Let me know how the controller performs with other motors you guys have.

junkman 06.05.2008 02:39 PM

Well, I just put the 60a through its paces. I put put a ubec on it and hooked it up to the fan as well. Fresh charged up 3s 4000, I ran a good 15 minutes mostly wide open up and down the road, and about 3" grass. Everything survived, but the esc was HOT, so was the motor. Up until now I had really just ran it back and forth on the road, and driveway. It really never has heated up much. The grass I think was pretty hard on it. It never gave any signs of getting hot, ran pretty much the same start to finish. I need to drop a couple teeth on the pinion, I am going to have to go up on the spur as a 20 is the smallest I can get on it right now. This is the motor I'm running
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...ess_Motor_(FIN) and honestly its too much on 3s for the light truck. The thing is all over the place.

I have a few of those ESCs in the first post. They don't like to change RPM as fast as a Castle controller, there is a noticeable lag and loss of punchyness IMO. Still work great for the price though.

well thats a bummer,a lack of punchyness is never a good thing. so will I be better off with mm on 5s occasionaly?

with the 60a I can honestly say that there is no lack of punch whatsoever. It is as instant as can be, I actually have the limiter set at forty, (I think that it cuts it 40%) and still a rocket. I wish I could trust the mm on 5s, that is really the only reason I thought I would try the ebay one. I have ran th mm a while on 4s as most have with no issues at all, just can't man up and take the chance of frying it.

asheck 06.05.2008 03:43 PM

Yeah I understand not wanting to fry it. John, what do you have the settings at?Now that I think about it that might make it better.I'm planning on the MMM once all the bugs are worked out,so this might be perfect to pass on to my son.

What about this one? It's huge, but maybe 5s 120amp http://cgi.ebay.com/1-10-Brushless-C...QQcmdZViewItem OK just got a quark 80b new for 120 shipped.Hope I didn't do to bad.I'll add some caps and work on cooling

I almost bought one of those. Anyone here try one?
