UBEC wiring

Is it ok to wire the ubec to one battery using a set of deans plugs as a bridge from the battery and esc? Or should I hardwire from both plugs coming from the esc? Red from one plug and black to the other?

Or, let me put it this way -- what's the best way to wire the ubec on a 9920 or the 16016? With a 4s lipo will I need ubec on the 16016? Experimenting with my 9920 I managed to cook the shrink off it while the truck ran herky-jerky at full throttle.... I musta done sumptin wrong....

I have a 9920 with BEC disabled & UBEC installed. This is what I have done :

What this means is that the UBEC is taking the full voltage of the battery & converting into 6V for use by the receiver & servo etc.

Can you guys point me to somewhere where I can learn what the heck a BEC vs a UBEC is? I ought to know this considering I'm running a hvmaxx in my emaxx and a mamba in my rc18t, but the terminology escapes me... Thanks,

Steve

Dear Steve,

If I am not mistaken, UBEC is an external standalone BEC (Mike sells this i think). In this case, it is used to replace the fishy internal BEC of the BK esc.

I like to wire my ubec to both batteries. That away it does not draw off one set. I wired mine to the same red and black wire that goes to the esc.

Yeah, I think that's how I'm gonna do it. I did it like scenario #2 in my drawing below, and I had stuttering and then a meltdown. Would wiring like scenario #1 have prevented the meltdown? (I hope -- otherwise I don't know what caused it)

I Not going to say yes and Not going to say no for cause. The ubec makes the loop in some cases for scenario 2. I hooked up a two novaks and it smoked the wires inbetween. I like the scenario one better. Did you have the black jumper off on esc?

I had it like this on my Hacker setup before and it worked ok, is this solution ok if I decide to do it like this again?

Any ideas as to what caused my meltdown? Solder connections seemed ok, but maybe too much resistance? Black jumper was removed.

Scenario 1 and 3 both work. They are just different ways of wiring the same way (although Scenario 1 would be the best because of lower resistance).

I just attached my UBEC to the other side of the esc and tapped it straight onto the controller's input power. Real neat, less wiring. No excess plugs.

Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead but I will be doing Scenario #3.

Just wondering how the flow of electricity works in that setup?

Does the UBEC/9920 come with all the required wires pre-fitted? I just need the deans and wires to join the centre part up (for batteries). I'm guessing that the UBEC has another wire that goes to the reciever?

Thanks,
Nick.

Yep,has wire that goes to your reciever.

Scenario 1 is best though,i can't see much point in scenario 3,it's exactly the same except you have an extra plug in there.Unless you want to be able to switch on/off with one plug.that's the only advantage i can see.

another advantage is being able to run the esc in something else that only uses one battery pack.

Oh yeah,i didn't think of that,good point.

Do I have to run it in? With my EVX it blew up first run out of box with 14 cells. I hope it doesn't with the 9920, heh.
