hyper 8 conversion

i just got a used hyper 8 today, it's very dirty, but i will clean it up. i'm mostly gonna bash no racing for me. well here's the set up that i might use.

car-hyper 8
motor-medusa afterburner 2200kv
esc-mamba max w/ fan
radio system- futaba 2ph fm
batteries-a123 4s 2200mah
body- idk

any suggestions would be appreciated.

i will post pics after i clean it up.

i dunno, maybe a plastic spur (u will need shims to do this) and more voltage OR a higher kv motor... i havent recieved my motor, but i ordered a 2550kv neu. this will give me the ability to add another 2 cells in parallel (and then wire into series) to give me 5s2p... im going to run 4s2p, and with less than 6 or 7s id suggest you do 2p too... its just NOT enough amps... or runtime!! 600g is comarable to those running 8K maxamps packs. its less than 100g more than the typical lipo setup anyway :)

u will also need a mount of some sort, either make your own or buy the hyper mount... have a look at my build and see if you will have the same issues as me. shouldnt do as i think its a direct fit :)

hope this helps...

I agree with tc3_racer_001, 1p simply will not be enough. 4s2p will be kinda awdward to fit onto the chassis and have clearance from the body, though.

well ill think of something, im probably not going lipo though

IIRC, my motor mount was difficult to remove too, but nothing a little bit of Kung-Fu grip couldn't solve!

Arct1k 06.17.2008 09:25 PM

Try some heat, then some wd40 and then use dremel to cut slot in screw and use flat heat screw driver...

Normally the heat from dremeling helps loosen it..

kyosho501x 06.17.2008 09:56 PM

should i use the reinforced bit or the unreinforced?

tc3_racer_001 06.18.2008 02:36 AM

get a lighter and heat up the screw, this will melt the locktight. then unscrew it quickly. i try to avoid cutting anything as i always screw it up lol... but its pretty clean. and yours doesnt have that pesky mount to deal with!! GRRR.. urs will be finished before mine. in regards to the body. im a good driver and ill never flip

ill just not cut as much off and mount it higher that normal. shouldnt matter if i flip it as they are alloy cells and a small bump wont hurt them will it?? a123 7s would be ok on the MMM but nothing more and you would get away with (albeit short) amp draw requirements)

BTW: do you recon i could steal a hyper 8 diff brace and diff mount? if i could i would avoid all these issues!! hooray!

If you flip your centerdiff by 180° your motor could be placed on the opposite side of your steering servo (front left). This way you would most likely have enough space to place 2 4s1p A123 packs in sidebyside config behind the center diff (giving you a well balanced buggy). With 4s2p A123 a 2200kv motor will rev up to 24000-26000rpm under load. With a somewhat bigger pinion you should be able to gear it for 40mph. A123 cells in 1p config are able of up to 100A but voltage can drop to 2.3V at this load. This gives you 230W peak per cell. With 8 A123 cells you will have around 2000W at your finger tip. Your limitation will be the Mamba max ESC which most likely is able of short peaks around 100-130A: up to 1400Watt (more then enough for a buggy).

Depending on the height of your body you might be able to fit 5s2p (humpback config 3+2 or 4+1) which would give you around 31000rpm under load.

well i got one mount off then my dremel died:no: well off to the charger:lol:

kyosho501x 06.18.2008 02:49 PM

does any one know where to get a medusa afterburner 2200kv the cheapest?

kyosho501x 06.18.2008 06:32 PM

is this motor overkill?

tc3_racer_001 06.19.2008 05:28 AM

its only 50mm long. the 2200 is 60mm long if i remember... however, if it were 60mm long it would be great!

people are running these in emaxxes and e savages... with great results (on the hot side) but in a buggy i wouldnt recommend it.

kyosho501x 06.19.2008 09:40 AM

yeah im still goin with the 2200
