Need hv-maxx to 7/8/9/10l comparison!
I currently have the hv maxx which I have now run, and it does have good smooth power, but whats the harm in MORE!?!
I am wondering if anyone has run both of these setups (hv maxx and somthing like the 9920 and 7/8/9/10 combo? I do like the fact that the novak is very smooth. I have never run a non-sensored brushless, so I have no experience with cogging. One thing I do like to do with my trucks every once in awhile (might take time out of runs to do this) is go slowly try to climb stuff...rocks/curbs etc. Do you think the cogging will not allow me to smoothly operate at the low speed stuff? Also, I am not totally sure what motor I should run. I have had the 9l and the 7xl reccomended to me. The only problem I see with the 7xl is the cell rating, which is 14-18 cells. the 9l can run 12-16. I am pretty lazy when it comes to batteries, and I already have a few 6 cell packs I would like to be able to run. Is the difference between the 7xl and the 9l worth running min of 14? The packs I will mostly be running are IB3800 6 cells, and IB3800 7 cells. The two things I want, are power and runtime. I would probably be gearing for a top speed of 25-30 mph. I like to run as long as possible, but also like power! I am still lost as what to go with. It looks like the warrior 9920 is the only viable controller for me, at 200. but then again the mamba maxx isnt out yet, so I dont know how that will compare. Any help is greatly appreciated! |
I have never had a Novak. But I consider my 7XL very smooth. The 9L is no big stutterer too.
The 7XL CAN be run at 12 cells. It performs great, in fact. I mostly run mine on 14 cells, and it's a blast. 30mph is no problem. On both motors. But I like the 7XL better, it runs cooler, more torque, not as fast as the 9L, but with very nice runtimes. I gear my Revo for 35-40mph on 14 cells, and 40-45 on 16, and it's a really nice ballance of all the things I want. And it comes on smooth. Cruising around the house gives me very long run time. Dafni you know what a man likes to hear!
sorry that came out wrong! LOL... so it can be safely run on 12 cells? I saw it is rated for 14-18. I guess it makes sense it can run on a lower voltage. What kind of average runtimes do you get with the e-revo on 14 cells geared for 35-40? I might gear a couple times for high speed, but other than that I dont have the space to be running that fast, so tops would be probably 35. I do like torque! Hmmm I think I might just have to get the 7xl. You should be a salesman dafni! |

Runtime depends on driving style, but I manage to drive the Revo under race conditions for 10mins without feeling a change in performance. If you crawl around and hop some curbs, with the occasional short brake to enjoy a smile, runtimes of more han 30 mins are well possible. Can't go wrong with the 7XL. And if you feel the need for speed, you can always strap a 3rd 6pack on.;) Cheers DAF |
I didnt think about that before...it can handle 18 cant it!?!? lol HMMM
I think I am going to go with the 9920 and 7xl combo with the heatsink/clamp. How reliable are these controllers? I have heard some horror stories of controllers dying. for 200 I really cant afford to do this more than once! What do you gear your e-revo? I usually like to run big tires (imex k-rocks and proline 40 series mashers) and then I have a set of standard sized bow-ties for the track. |
He's just telling the truth...
;) that 9L on 16 cells is not done.. (unless you want to fry it) ;) My choice would be the 7XL as well. I had a bigmaxximum/schulze 18.97, and this 7XL is just smoother. the sensorless systems being hicky and stuttering are over.. No big power setup is made with sensored as well. You simple don't need it. |
As for gearing, what pitch do you run? 32p or mod1??
|
Well as of now I have the stock emaxx spurs (well a few anyway) so I could run either.
looks like the 7 xl has a 5mm shaft, so I will have to buy pinions either way. Mod 1 are really beefy right? So maybe that would be the best choice to have the best spur gear life? I will have to look into what the cost of mod 1 spurs cost. |
Get a strobe slipper from Mike ;) along with the Ofne Mod1 51t spur.
A 14 or 16t pinion would work well for the 7XL. (stock diffs assumed. Look for a 1:18 to 1:16 final reduction) |
The 7xl is a great motor. For crawling I think a 8 or 9Xl does better. The 7xl does real well though. JMO
I changed my avator serum. No confusion no more. :D |
strobe slipper gets my vote too! mod1 is much stronger, and the slipper pads of the strobes can handle more than the stock slipper
|
Alright I might have to go with the ofna 51t and the strobe setup.
Country, why do you say the 8 or 9xl does better for crawling? I am a brushless noob essentially, so bare with me! It dosnt look like mike has a 8xl or 9xl? what does the longer can do, more torque? |
All XL cans are the same size. The number is the wind.
The 8 or 9XL have a lower rpm/volt rating. |
so if its a lower rpm/volt, would that equate to more efficiency/run time?
|
the big tires would be better suited for teh 7xl instead of 9l.
