help pinions not fit neu shaft
 

hello,

I just got my neu motor 1515/1y/s and I have 20, 22 and 24 pinions from mike
the 20 and 22 fit the shaft but the 24 not fit the shaft what should I do?

I put some bearing oil in the pinion hole and still not fit :(

If you have access to a drill press just gently ream out the existing hole, how for off is it?.

That’s sucks, I’ve got like (8) of Mike pinions and they all work great, I’ve never had issue one..

yes the 20 and 22 pinion work great but the 24 just 1/4 can come in the shaft. so I think the hole is small in the center. I will try find 5mm drill bit

Or a small file might be used to smooth over the inside dia.

I had that issue with my 26T. There might be little burr sticking out where the set screw hole was drilled. If you have a small round file you can smooth it out. Shouldn't take much.

I dont think you wil have much luck with a drill or a file on Miles extra hard pinions. The pinions are so hard you will probably not be able to cut them with normal tool steel. I would look at trying a dremel with a small stone wheel and very carfully grind down any high spots in the hole.

I wrap some sandpaper around a small drill bit and run that in there.

I reamed mine with a drill bit and it worked fine. Granted it's hardened and takes a little extra effort but all in all about 3-4 minutes.

The hole should be accurate, but you may be fighting a slight burr at the set screw as Rabosi mentioned. The gears are hard, but the little set screw burr should grind away fairly easily(if the hole was innaccurate, you wouldn't be able to do much with it at all - they are pretty hard and you would need custom tooling to put a dent in it). It shouldn't have a burr to begin with(sorry about that), but it is easy to remove with a drill(if you can find a 5mm drill) or a reamer.

Some pinions will have a little scrap from where they tapped the hole for the set screw. Mine had that problem and I just got a little screw drives and passed it a few time through the hole and it is all good now.

When hardened residue can be left behind that will cause a tight fit. This happens fairly often and a little reaming is needed. Mike is correct though, if the actual part is the wrong size good luck reaming it with standard tools.
