Selling poll: First asked or first paid?
I wanted to get your opinions on the most appropriate way to handle a common situation.
When you post something for sale, often several people request pricing around the same time frame, but invariably they respond to the pricing at different times and in a different order. Do you sell it to the first guy that asks for the price or to the first guy who says, "I'll take it"? |
First I'll take it.
|
between firs guy to say "ill take it" and first one to pay...
Money talks... its says "ill take it, RIGHT NOW" |
i opted for the ill take but my actual feelings are if they say they will take and pay me on this date i give until this date. If he pays then he gets it. If not than it goes to the next person that said they wanted it. If it is within the week i will hold items.. if it is more than a week and i have other offers i will sell it to the other offer. IMO

I'll take it should be first within reason. I think when you commit to take you need to commit to a buy date that is within a few days.
|
I voted "first guy who says I'll take it". That person has first dibs. If that falls through, I contact the other interested parties. Failing that, I open it back up.
|
Guy who says I'll take it and pays within a couple of days (unless specific arrangement is made.)
I've had a few times where I agreed to buy something (not on RCM), but was unable to pay at that exact moment (like @ work or whatever) go home that night and get a message that someone else got it bc they paypal'd right then. That's a dick move by the seller IMO. If I agree to buy something explicitly and then don't pay or contact the seller for a couple of days, then deal is off IMO. Also, the agreement has to explicit. One forum people used to just rush in and call dibs in a post and never PM the seller to work out terms. Then all the other people PMing get put off and leave the seller in the lurch. |
i also vote for first to say 'i'll take it'. too many people respond and say 'i'll get back to you' and then don't.
|
I vote for 1st I'll take it. And then payment in reasonable/agrreable amount of time. I would frown on that buyer then backing out after a deal has been reached. Need a couple more days, sure. Backing out......Not so cool !!!
I know that when I say, "I'll take it"......I mean it!! No if ands or but's. If I change my mind, too bad. It's mine to try and resell. I'd feel like a complete jerk backing out on a deal for no real reason. But that's just me. I know there are other things that are WAY more important in life that can change a situation. If someone want's to think about it/mull it over. They better stay in touch, ask questions, pull my hair, or something... . There are a handful of guys that I dealt with in the past that I would/could hold items for 4-6 weeks. I really try and be as flexible as possible for everybody. |
I'll accept an "I'll take it response", but then you have 24 hours to pay via Paypal. IMO, if you can take the time to PM me that you want it, you can darn sure take the time to Paypal the money to me. I feel that 24 hours is sufficient time unless the buyer has specifically asked for more time to make the payment.

my opinion is you pm for price first, seller responds, then if you want it but can't pay at the moment immedietlly pm and tell when you can pay. If your the first to do this and can pay within a day or seller agrees to your terms your the one that gets it! But if you say you want it and agree on pricing you had better pay! I'm not sure if there is already a thread on here for posting your experience selling or buying from specific members there should be so people can see your record.
