charger having trouble with big flightpower 5s

I use a Hyperion EOS0606i charger that has the built in balancer and yesterday at the track i wouldnt charge my flightpower 5s at 5amps like i had it programed for, it automatically charged it at only 2.5 amps no matter what, after looking at the specs on the charger it says it has a 50W output, im guessing im asking too much of my little charger. so i guess i know the problem but i cant find an affordable AC/DC charger that will handle what i need it to do......i can get a superbrain 989 but then wouldnt i be limited by the balancer? im needing a second charger due to having two packs for the gf's buggy, 3s lipo in the slash, and the big flightpower for my truggy, not enough time to keep everyone fully charged now witht he truggy in the mix.

im looking at chargers and balancers right now so if you have any suggestions let me know i need to get something ordered and have it here my friday.

The max amp rating on the charger is for 2 or 3S. If you go with 5-6S, it will only do the 2 or so AMPs.

yea i know my little charger just cant handle it, can the superbrain 989 with an LBA10 balancer do it? i can get a brand new 989 for a $100 and someone on here was selling a new LBA10.

if this would charge the 5s 5000 flightpower at 5 amps or 1C then this is what ill get.

I would stay with the Hyperion brand

if you have a budget I would go with the 0606i model, it wil do a 6s 6000 pack with an external PS but if you dont I would go with the 0610i which I have but you will need an external PS, and if you like the 0610i model also comes in a duo model where it has 2 builtin balancers and jack for charging 2 packs at once they just have to be the same packs ( same voltage and and capacity)

link for the chargers

0606i..........http://www.b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=fa_0606i_DC

0610i.........http://www.b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=fb_0610i

0610i duo.........http://www.b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=0610iduo

I also use the Ofna 18 amp PS my combo of the 0610i and the Ofna PS is compact enough to bring with the track and it is plenty for my FP 6s 5000 and with the FP packs you can charge up to 2.5c, I havent tried going over 1c yet but 2c would be the max of the combo

i have the 0606i ....... so your saying if i use an external 12v supply it WILL charge my 5s 5000 at 5 amps???? what about the 50W max output???

the duo is out of my budget and the 0610i would be well out of my budget after buying a powersupply.

Effectively, the Hyperion 0610i DUO worth every $$$.
I've this charger, he can put a total of 360 W output charge power:gasp:

This mean that you can charge two 8000mAh 5s pack at 8 amps charge rate in same time:oh: And you don't even touch the limit yet:wink:

well if the mrc 989 and LBA10 will do what im wanting i will get it, i know mrc makes a good charger and its only specs about output is that itll only do 1.2C which is fine if itll do it on a 5s 5000 pack

I thought the dc version would have more than a 50 watt output, I knew the ac/dc version had it......sorry about that...than I would go with the 0610i

Kinda makes you wonder why manufacturers make a charger with such low power limits. Sure, in the past it was OK because many people only ran 2s, but with today's high capacity packs and/or high voltage, it makes no sense. And, if a charger says it can do 10s and 10A, it should do both at the same time (420w). Most people aren't even aware of the power spec and how it affects their charging. And, many chargers don't readily list the power limit (or it's buried somewhere in fine print) and that is just wrong IMO.

I have 2 mrc 989 chargers and they work great. I use lba balancers and have no issues. I have some hyperion chargers and a couple Ice chargers too, and they all work well.

I did some research and the 989 has a power limit of 106 watts and your 5s 5000 pack would need 92.5 so you should be ok, but you wont be able to do anything more

106w?? Sounds like an odd value. I thought it was 120w.
