what do you all use to seal upt he front of the Neu motors
With my rcm motor mount, what do you use to seal it up? The front cover that Mike sells will make the shaft too short. So what I did was cut up an old nitro air filter and when compressed, seems to seal it up pretty good. What do you guys think.

Should be fine. I dont even bother with sealing them any more. Havent had a problem.
|
Really, it looks a little too open for my liking.
|
I use nothing, no issues at all for months on my Gevo and weeks on my buggy!. If anything the air is allowed to flow keeping an already cool motor even cooler.
|
Don't you guys worry about getting something in there and ruining a 230- motor? I guess I am being overly cautious.
|
I used to worry about it, but got sick of the covers. I have a cople with the front cover that Mike makes, but others that dont have anything front or back. Havent seen it happen yet. I would think if it was going to happen someone whould have posted about it already. I suppose its possible, but...
I dont think it hurts anything to cover the holes so do it if it makes you more comfortable. |
I might try it w/ a very thin screen to see what happens and to try it.

Nope if it breaks it breaks, why should a motor be any different than the ESC or anything else on our builds. Unfortunately everything is disposable in this hobby, it just kind of comes with the territory.

Some people use tape, some aluminum plates, some filters. You can check out another thread here

I don't use anything for the front as it is pretty much covered by the mount. The rear of my Neu has the RCM cover. You can add electrical tape or Teflon tape (A little thinner then electrical tape) to cover the holes if you think you need to.

I use electrical tape to cover my bearings and holes in brushed and brushless motors. I drive a lot on this gravel which seems to have a lot of iron in it. If you drop a magnetic screw driver into it all the small rocks will stick to it. It's the sort of stuff that will destroy an open motor quickly. Hence if I get a Neu it will be sealed.
|
I cut a piece of 1/8th inch aluminum with a hole saw that is the same diameter as the motor for the front. Drill a couple of holes in it for the mounting screws. Works well. Even allows some heat dissipation to the motor mount. I use the RCM cover on the back.

Electrical tape front, RCM cover rear.

I used some old window screen on the front and back.
