A few Maxx Questions..

Hello all, I have a few questions regarding the Maxx Series..

1. Are the Tmaxx 2.5 and Emaxx transmissions interchangeable?
Would i be able to drop an E-maxx transmission into a Tmaxx

2. Is there a wheelbase difference between the Tmaxx 2.5 and the emaxx?

3. Are the transmissions the same length?

Im asking these because i just got offered a Tmaxx 2.5 roller for my raze...

heres what its looking like with stock gearing and the 3905 transmision

1. yes
2. no
3. yes

After all is done you might be better off getting the cash and buy a 3905. Better diffs, better frame, better layout, longer wheelbase. Better all around

thanks!

and truck is coming with a full array of rpm goodies and and hardened steel gears..

Are maxx trucks any bit competitive??

brushlessboy16 07.03.2008 10:22 PM

bump..

Will revo gear or diff fit on maxx diffs or bulkheads?

suicideneil 07.05.2008 05:30 PM

Maxx trucks are competitive with other maxxes, but they will loose to revos for sure, not certain about salvages.

The revo diff and/or its internals will not work in a maxx, and viceversa.

meh, i was thinking of taking a Tmaxx rolling chassis and throw an 1/8th scale center diff on it, MM 5s and what ever motor..

I know i will need some bulks maybe Diff gears and some decent tires to compete...

Are they grey plastic bulk heads any good?

What causes the diff gears to fail? just weak parts or flexing between the two gears

Duster_360 07.05.2008 05:47 PM

The grey bulks are a smidge better than the older blacks - but won't be up to bl power. The stock 3.3 or 2.5 structure lets the diff cases twist apart or open slightly pulling the R&P out of mesh - get grinding and eventually either pinion rips teeth off ring gear, or pinion looses some teeth. The 2.5 has 4 small 2mm screws holding the diff cup to the ring - another weak point, don't know if 3.3 upgraded this or not. Neither are shimmed stock, so some are diffs work/last longer than others. The stock spyders are another weak point and a good nitro diff will eventually have a spyder failure.

Nitro solution is alum diff cases, alum diff brace, alum diff cup with 3mm screws and good shim job. BL power/torque - something like UE diffs and alum bilks or flm hybrids with ofna style diff gears. Nitro upgrades will last longer than stock, but will be a problem eventually. UE (and alum bulks) or hybrids will fix it pretty much for good. Then you'll need drive axles and center drives - fortunately the 3.3 stuff seems to do pretty well here.

ok, i was looking at Diff cases and bulks...

Ran into one little problem though...

With the stock diffs, and 62/9 center gearing its putting me at 52 mph....
think this setup would put too much stres on a 10l?

anyone?

They're the same on the 3.3.

so shimmed stock gears wont hold up?

They will not last long. If you plan to use shimmed stock gear, use them with an aluminum diff cup to prevent flex and enlarged the pinion gear holes to accept 3mm screws. I had used stock traxxas gears, aluminum diff cup (kippsters) and pinion bored out to accept 3mm screws, shimmed and they lasted a long time. I have never broken one. I had since sold it in favor of the 6 and 8 spyders.

hmm. what shimms would i use for the maxx diffs?

All the parts and instruction you need is in this link. It even have pictures showing you how it's done. Read it :intello:.
