ive never used a heavy wieght like this before

i'm using 120k diff oil and have never used one this heavy before and wanted to know how you're supposed to apply it. since it's so thick are you supposed to apply it onto the gears like grease and let it move around inside the diff? or if you're supposed to fill the cup, how much are you supposed to fill? it's hard to tell since it's so tight in the diff. any tips?
if it matters, i have a 3905 emaxx.
i bought 120k and a 50k. im planning to put 120k in the front diff and mix the 120 and 50 to get 85k for the rear diff. im runnning bl power and when i accelerate, my emaxx pulls to one side. i was told if i put heavier diff oil, it should help with that problem. stock comes with 30k
my bashing consists of mainly climbing hills, rocks, etc, and trampling over things..not much speed runs.
or should i put the 85k in the front diffs and 50k in the rear?

no one has any kind of advice to offer me? i have my diffs cracked open and gears just laying out to dry after cleaning...time to put this sucker back in...haha

did you check for drivetrain drag?

:surprised: Wow that's mighty thick oil you’re using (??).

Typically most use anywhere from 3k - 10k on diffs and 30-50K on center diffs, I’ve never heard of anyone or yet 120k oil..

Remember thicker oil in front example my GEVO I'm running 7k in front 5 k in the rear on 6 & 8s, I'm running 5k in both front and rear on my buggies and 30k for the center diff on 4s.

Personally I wouldn’t do it but that's just me..

I just fill mine like any other diff oil, but you need to wait alot longer before the oil starts to settle into the gears and start putting more in until you fill it 75% of the way. My DM1 comes with 100k front and 50k rear stock fyi.

Since the TRX gears are only 2 spiders it takes really thick oil to get the same action as 1/8th diffs. I had to use 500K oil in the center diff in the revo, it was like toothpaste. Still diffed out too lol.

I filled the 500K like paste. Filled the dif cup up, rotating the gears as I went along. Then put on the crown gear and let it leak out one of the screws. I tried several ways, but none are too easy.

well it comes stock with already 30k. i heard im not suppose to spin the gears as that may cause air bubbles. so i just fill it up, let it settle, and fill up again till 75%? how do i know how much 75% is? just estimate? i think someone told me to fill up to the gear teeth.

Just fill it up until the oil hits the spider gears.

blueb8llz 07.05.2008 02:05 PM

like to the top of the spider gear? just right when it hits the spider gear or right above it?( like right when u cant see it anymore)?

I fill until the top spyder shaft is almost covered. It's not that big a deal - whatever amount that is too much will come out of the ring gear holes when you put it together.

I'd rather have a little come out so I know its full than not see any at all.

ok sounds good. but how do all you guys screw the diff back on. all 4 screws diagonally, or 3 screws and leave last hole for oil to come out, then screw the last screw in?
whats the best way? thanks all
