another take on a slash

Slapped this one together a couple days ago, ebay 100a esc, hobbycity 9xl. Geared 14/38. I thought I had a 9l, but It was a 6s, so stuck the 9xl in. It could def use more gear, that is all I had. Been running it off 3s 4000mah. Plenty of power to put it on its top with ease from a slow-mid roll, but doesn't have the midrange I thought it would, may be the gearing. I had a velineon set up in the last one, and it was much better all around I feel. I really think the hobbycity 9xl is a pos. It just doesn't seem to do what I think it should no matter what I put it in. I have one of the bidproduct motors and it seems to be a much better motor. The esc has been doing fine, you may remember. I had a 60a model that did fine too, until that hobcit motor started shorting itself out. Threw a couple updated hobby room pics in too since I was up there. Still have a lot of unpacking and sorting to do, no a/c up there yet is killing productivity. I have another on of those esc I wouldn't mind getting rid of if someone is interested, I have ended up with 3 100a, and 160a, so going to let one go for a 2nd wave mmm.

I think it's safe to say you are a certified addict, damn look at that collection!

It looks terrible right now, but after 2 years of this stuff being in storage, and my wife only letting me work on the kitchen table for a bit, and put it up when I am done, I am kind of excited. I have just been going through boxes and throwing stuff out, sorting a little at a time. I still have several boxes in the atic to bring down, but I am getting closer. Garage sale no way, that's what this room it for!

Nice to see another tamiya fan... I think you may have more stuff than I do...

Also, you are barely hitting 20k rpm on the motor, that will be why it feels a bit sluggish. If you can run 4s on the motor, and go with a 40t spur, you will see a big difference. Or 5s and it would be nuts.

Linc, between you and Junkman, you would give Tower Hobbies a run for their money!!:mdr:

I've only tried a few of the hobbycity motors, but just didn't seem to be good quality. Of course for the price I guess you really can't complain. The 9xl runs hot, noticeably hotter than the nemesis, or bidproduct motor. I was super impressed with the L can 380 I got from them, but a sloppy bearing housing making it short out after about 10 packs or so was kind of discouraging. The bidproduct motors I have are
http://www.bidproduct.com/part/Produ...0MOTOR_46.html in 7xl variety in a turmoil conversion, and a

I have been impressed with both, I feel they run like they should, only downfall is plan on about 3 weeks to get and the shipping is very pricey. I think they are worth twice the price over the hobbycity ones. Just my opinion. I ordered a couple more gears to play with, I want to keep it on 3s just because the packs I have drop right in. I think I may try one of the new bidproduct motors, 9L with the fins. I havn't heard anything at all about them. Guess I can be the ginuea pig.

Ive ran 5s along with the 8xl and a modded MM and all I can say is the 8xl only ran a little warm, the MM ran pretty cool and the 5s lipo cold. It was super uncontrollable at any speed. Would flip wheelies if you tapped the throttle going 60mph and flip over the swami-bar and skid on its lid for what seemed like forever... Went threw 2 good bodies that one day I used it all day.

xqcontrol is what it has on the label. You want one?

I've ran a Feagio 6xl (2770kv) in my vxl slash on 3s not to bad. A little low speed clogging, and the whole truck leaned to the left due to the 70mm can hanging out the side. VXL ESC was getting a little hot too(180f). Went with a medusa v2. Nice collection, No AC blows, For spot cooling I run a Pep boy's ac unit on wheels in my garage.
