upcoming slayer question
 

me and a friend in the near future will be purchasing a slayer, we will be purchasing the technorc conversion with the rc-m motor mount to use regular pinions. the question is: on 3s what esc/motor combo would you use? and on 4s? i like neu/medusa route and he is looking for something a liitle cheaper motor wise.

Hmm. On anything up to 4s, the MM is probably the clear winner as far as the ESC is concerned, although I'd probably get the MMM just for the potential to go up to as high as 6s if you wanted to. It's just a matter of picking the motor wind to match the voltage.

Even though the Slayer is supposedly lighter with smaller tires, I would be careful on voltage/motor selection. Much of the decision is based on how fast you want it to go and if you are keeping the two speed tranny.

- Speeds ~35-40mph using 2 speed: May be OK with a 50mm MedUsa or 1509 Neu or L Fiegao. I'd use no lower than 4s to keep current low though, but may be OK with a decent capacity/C value 3s pack.

- Speeds ~35-40mph using single speed OR speeds >40mph using 2 speed tranny: I'd step up to a 60mm MedUsa or 1512 Neu or XL motor. Again, 4s minimum IMO.

- Speeds >45mph using single speed: Step up to a Neu 1515 and increase the voltage to 5s or 6s. That extra high speed load on a single speed tranny will need torque to move.

those that run revos, does a 4s pack throw the balance off as compared to 3s?

My revo used 14 GP3300 cells and it was fine. Don't forget, the motor, ESC, and steering servo can be mounted on one side to offset the weight.

do they have a single speed conversion available? i also saw that someone started a thread on how they locked the single speed also, don't really remember

No stock single speed conversion yet. I started a thread in the Revo section (it's a sticky at the top) showing how to do this.

So there is BL conversions for the slayer allready?Or will the Tekno RC Revo convertion work?

The general view is it is basically a revo 2.5 with stubby arms and hence all the revo conversion bits should work:

If you don't want the clutch the easiest option is:

Single Servo conversion
Tekno Battery Tray
Tekno ESC mount
RCM revo motor mount

I just seen one of these at the hobbytown convention this week,it is a 2.5 revo chassis with short arms.
Traxxas demo'd it and it is pretty impressive,suspension is really soft though,lots of chassis roll.

Looking at the chassis in the exploded view, the only big difference between the Slayer chassis and the Revo 2.5 is there is extra room cut out behind the tranny on the Slayer. It appears there is room for a rear brake setup, but after looking at the transmission, the final gear is pretty small and I'm not sure they can/will make a center diff for it. You could always throw in a Revo transmission and gear up if you want a center diff.

Other than that, all of the Tekno and RCM parts for the Revo should fit the Slayer without any issues. Can't wait for this thing...
