Finally Got To Drive My RC8 Conversion....
I finally got to take my Converted RC8 to the track today.
It has the rcproductdesigns EA8 conversion, Neu 1515 1.5D/F with a 13t pinion, 8000 mah, 11.1Volt battery, MGM-Compro with separate Rx pack.... Well, I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. I think it has to do with the MGM Compro programming. I couldn't get the computer hook up to work with my PC so I had to use the Tx programming method. Acceleration is very progressive. Right now its too soft down low. I want more punch. It seems to get up to speed fine, but its definitely a different feel. The power comes on "late", requiring a different style of driving. I also have to figure out how to remove the drag-brake from the ESC. Its a bit too much for my liking. I found it hard to control. Again, I think its the power delivery. Seems like everything happens a second later than you expect.... Now I'm not a noob by any means and I am used to the characteristics of the RC8 as I race a Nitro version. During the summer months I run a Kyosho ST-RR and an RC8. During the winter I run a couple Tamiya TRF501Xs, and an AE FT B4. I've also been into off-road RC for over 25 years. Also after maybe 10 minutes the engine was rather warm. Didn't temp it, but I'd say close to 140ish. So, to say the least, I'm less than happy with it right now. I know it takes abit of time to get it set-up, but I guess I expected it to be somewhere between my Nitros and my 10th scale brushless/lipo buggies.... |

I went with the 16024 rather than the MM cause I know the MGM can handle quite a bit more power/batteries. Not sure about the MM. I didn't want to buy something then have to replace it.... Thanks for the input! |
The Mamba Max is just as bullet proof as the MGM and it's even smoother. On 3s, the Mamba Max is no problem at all. Go get one, now!

why only 3s? wouldnt you be better off on 4s? and yes a MM will handle 3 and 4s just fine, only needs a CC bec and maybe and external cap if you wanted too.

To quicken the acceleration set the spool up timing to a lower value. I would set the drag brake to off. All that does is heat up the motor and esc more than necessary. Also make sure you have the freewheel setting set to ON. I still think the brakes on the MGM are a bit quirky if you have reverse enabled so I would also recomend setting it to CAR forward only if you plan on using it on the track.
Another note... I personally dont think that 3s is enough for a 1/8. It can get the job done, but feels softer than a proper 4s+ setup on the thottle so I am afraid you may never get the performance you were hoping for without the voltage. Just something to consider. |

CC03 cable is ONLY for firmware updates
for regular connection u need CC02 also you need to connect battery to ESC when connecting it to the USBCOM+ (its in the manual) |
when you buy a MGM controller what cables does it come with?

None. They are all optional items just like the USBCOM++

I would never take an mm over an mgm the mgm is twice the control...as for the batt step up to a 4s and you will rock!

If you step up to 4s and leave the gearing you will be geared for around 40mph. Not sure if you can fit a smaller pinion with the finned neu motor not making contact with something. Making the adjustments to the esc sounds good. I would also try a larger pinion than a 13t. maybe go up to a 15 or 16t pinion. You may find that it loads the motor better and provides a better feel... Plus the extra speed cannot hurt unless you are running on a tiny track. Most 1/8 buggys are geared to do 37+ mph with the nitro engines. |
