Looking for a large scale project

I am soon to be the owner of a 2250/12 so now I am looking for something BIG to put it in and make good use of it.

I've actually gotten a bit bored with smaller models and although at the moment I live in a small 2 bedroom condo in the city - I will within 6-8 months be living out in the burbs again and have more space to play.

My thoughts for this project are a 8-10S system in a 1/6 or 1/5 scale vehicle. I've been checking out some of the vehicles on:

http://www.innovativehobby.com/index...ATS&Category=2

and they look pretty sweet, but I don't really know much about the brands or models except for the HPI Baja, but I'd really like to stay with a 4wd vehicle.

Anyone have any input or experience with something this size. Probably would be most likely looking at a MT or ST, but at that size even a buggy would probably have quite a bit of clearance.

How about an e-bike?

i once had a mcd car in the onroad rally car about five years ago, this was one of the best cars i ever had, i could out drive any 1/5 scale car on the track (i shouldn't have sold mine) great in gas but maybe too heavy for electric if they made a eletric version i would buy for sure !!! they are from Turkey and are great people to deal with two thumbs up. www.mcdracing.com

Yes - this site is pretty good. Looks like they have renamed to http://www.innovativehobby.com though.

A few other sites I found here in the US:

There's a bunch of good vids on Youtube of the large scale in gas version and it looks like largescaleRC has a few experimental BL conversion of the MCD rally car and buggy. They seem to be running it on 6S-22.2v setups though. The BL are still faster than the gas at that voltage, but I would imagine on a 20-25lb model the amp draw has got to be pretty huge.

The MCD MT http://mcdracing.com/monster_truck.htm looks pretty nice and has protective side panels to keep all those electronics safe, but in searching the youtube vids it seems very top heavy and bouncy - not very stable on bumps - kinda gets thrown around a lot.

I think I am liking the MCD Race Runner http://mcdracing.com/race_runner.htm Great handling and adjustable ride height. Soaks up the bumps pretty good.

There is also a vid of a BL FG Beetle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X7OLtvLtMk that seems to have some pretty good handling.

Looks like the two biggest challenges are going to be:
1 - How to mount motor - largescaleRC.com might be able to help as they have some LMT motors mounted pretty cleanly in the experimental BL setups.
2 - How and where to fit 10S into the model securely. Doesn't look like too many big spaces to fit a long pack based on pics I can see, but the models are over 2 ft. long so maybe the pics are deceiving. Would be nice to be able to at least get a 10S-3300mAh TP pack in there (~3000 watts at 25C rating).

I have a feeling I am going to get ahead of myself very quickly on this one as I don't have the ~$3K right now that this project would probably end up costing.

Ya know - by the time I get to this one - we might have those HV car ESCs that Partick has been talking about from CC.

bl-is-future 07.17.2008 01:43 PM

there you go that is your ESC you will need LOL. I was looking at the, i hat to say but, the brushed ESC made for the electric scooters and stuff.

I'm sorry - I'd don't understand the word brushed ;) does that mean like it comes with a free comb?

bl-is-future 07.17.2008 02:01 PM

lol yeah im hoping to get a nice HV ESC when they come out and put it in a 5b

A Baja 5b or that rally car would be really cool.

I think this one would be awesome:

http://www.fgmodellsport.com/FG-Inte...-layout_e.html

I can't help but wonder how well those disk brakes would hold up though - looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

It's tough with the FG models - they are mostly 2WD - although there are 4WD conversion kits out there. I just question a car designed to be 2WD performing well as a 4WD.

So far I am thinking the pick is this one:

Contact jzemaxx. He knows where to get the 4WD 1/5 scale at a good price.

Dont know if this is what you are looking for but he may ship it.
