Amp Draw

Ok so im assuming that theres no way to figure out theoretical amp draw? Or is the amp rating of the motor the most that they will draw constant? I thought i saw somewhere that a 7xl will only draw 80a is this correct. I assume that the burst could hit almost 120 if not more.

Theoretically, a motor can pull tons more than that. During stall, there is only the motor resistance to limit current. For example, a 7XL resistance is 0.0056 ohms. Using 4s lipo, that a theoretical 2,642A. So, your current will be somewhere between that and 0A. Of course your ESC, wires, connectors, batteries, etc will not maintain 14.8v at anywhere near those currents, but you get the idea. The more mechanical load you place on a motor will increase the starting current, so gearing, weight, etc plays a big role.

i think the 7XL is closer to 100 amps, I run a 1515/2.5d and its around 80 amps

Ok i guess my thing is im setting up a revo and im deciding if i should use an airplane based esc and mechinal brakes. Is it possible to use the motor as a brake with the clutch?

in order to use motor breaking you have to remove the OWB and lock the tranny in 2nd gear and I dont think its possible to do with the clutch setup but maybe somebody has been sucessful

Ok i thought that that was the case. at this point im going to setup the revo for 4s on either a 9xl or something similar and run my MM.

Ok so maybe i changed my mind after looking around. Would it be worth it, to run an airplane ESC with a pistix and use 6s? Do you guys think that the higher voltage will yeild a better run time or should i stick with the s on the MM?

higher voltage will yield longer run times if you pair it up with a lower kv motor, I get 30 min run times with my 6s 5000 FP pack in my converted Revo with a Neu 1515/2.5d

Ok im seeing some vids of a MM on 5s, is this doable with a standard one?

Arct1k 07.18.2008 09:27 AM

There is a reasonable chance that a modded one will run on 5s but perhaps not with a fully charged pack...

7XL though won't take 5s... You need to keep a feigao around 30k...

mriccucci 07.18.2008 09:29 AM

yea im seeing that in the calc. I think im going to setup for now with 4s as i have everything i need including batteries. Ill most likely either get rid of some of my other junk and pinch some pennys to buy a MMM and a neu motor along with batts.

Arct1k 07.18.2008 09:32 AM

The MMM motor combo is out in August and is going for 270 -

mriccucci 07.18.2008 09:34 AM

Really? the price on tower is 350, 270 is way more in my price range is there somewhere i can preorder at 270?

Sammus 07.18.2008 09:47 AM

nah it was at 287 for like a day, they got hit with a bunch of $60 coupons so they put up their price $60 to compensate.. kinda dodgy. Good price anyway I think, at 287 - 60 they were probably loosing out.

I tried searching but i havent come up with anything, whats the general rule of thumb on trouble shooting elctronics. Hot controller means what?
