how many a123 cells on a hyper 8?

ok i have a hyper 8. im gonna use a123's but i don't know how many should i get. i heard that if i use 6 cells, i would fry my mamba max which i'll be using. so here is my setup
-hyper 8
-mamba max
-CC BEC
-hitec 625mg
-medusa 1600kv or 1515/2.5d
-14t pinion
-a123 cellcount-?
im thnking about 5s1p, i don't care about runtimes cause charge times are 15min.

5 A123 cells may work, but I definitely wouldn't try 6 cells. Even at 5 cells, the MM may not want to arm. Right-off-the-charger, they are at 18v. They should drop a little after a while of just sitting there, but I dunno.

I would go with 6s a123, most MM seem to be able to take 5s lipo, which is about the same as 6s a123. Plus the 1600 kv motor will be better with the increased voltage. Since you are using a 14t pinion, you will be slow with only 5s a123.

What speed are you aiming for?

im aimin for around 40-50

plus i might get a 1515/2.5d

plus are there any mods i have to do for the mm to accept 6s a123?

5s2p works fine for me on a G3Revo - I have armed and briefly run on 6s but didn't push it...

PS required MM mods i.e. Fan, Extra Cap and Ubec

kyosho501x 07.18.2008 11:45 AM

well i already have a fan, and getting a cc bec, but could you give me more info on the cap?

Arct1k 07.18.2008 11:55 AM

Easiest option is the novak hv cap $10 but eqivalent caps can be found cheaper on digikey - do a couple of seaches on rcm on digikey and you should be able to find links

kyosho501x 07.18.2008 12:13 PM

how would i perform this mod?

Arct1k 07.18.2008 12:29 PM

Just solder the cap across the power lines as close to the esc as you can - normally the easiest option it strip off some of the insulation .75" from ESC and solder there. Shorten the novak cap leads as they are a bit long. Touch of heatshrink and you are done...
