7xl not running as hot as i thought
so i finally picked up a temp gun after reading all the posts about how important it is. I used to have to take breaks every 10 mins because my motor felt close to 200 degrees. so i got to use my temp gun today, and to my surprise, after 10 mins, the 7xl was only 126 degrees. so you guys were right, to the touch, it may feel very hott, but you can still be in driving temps. im glad i picked up a temp gun, now i can run for like 15-20 mins before taking a break/cool down.
im geared 24/68 4s lipo and i do not bash hard at all. |
wow...is this on an emaxx?..if so, that's really a good temp for 68/24
|
Yup, things generally feel WAY hotter than the ol' "finger thermometer" indicates. 200 degrees would give you an almost instant burn. Most of the time what people consider "really hot" is about 150 degrees. A temp gun is a must for giving yourself some peace of mind. :)

And less charred fingers.

lol. I spent years as a chef, and more years as a carpenter. 150 degrees and I can barely feel it. If it's hot enough to burn my fingertip, it's too damn hot!!!
This is why I don't buy the touch method. Everyone is different. Some of us have abused our hands to the point of not having much feeling in the fingertips, such as myself ;). Those temps are very nice for a 7xl in emaxx. I wouldn't have tried it myself, but I'm glad it's working for you! J. |
yup on the good ol emaxx3905. yea, i knew most on here ran around 20t/68 with the 7xl, but i also knew i dont bash nearly as hard as you guys, so i chose the 24t. i still sucks to have to take 2-3 breaks during a run, but what can you expect for $60.
im going to wait on the new 60mm medusas or the castle style neus...just needa hear some reviews when both motors come out to make my decision. |
gear down a couple teeth and you might not need to take those breaks :).

thats good that you confirmed that all feigaos get hot. gearing lower was starting to be a thought. whoa...8s huh? sounds super powerful hhah and expensive haha. i rather get a good motor and 4s than the 14xl and 8s. i guess you prolly have lots of lipos to have options like this. yup cant wait for the medusas and cc motors.

higher voltage and higher turn motors is the way to go....I have thought about going to 10s and 1515/2y in my converted Revo but wonder if it would be worth the price increase(new batteries, motor)and it wouldnt be for any more power I am about at the extent of using the power I already have, it would be about making the set up more efficient.....the setup would pull about 50-60 amps....:-) |
I will never buy another nemesis/wanderer or fago again they all hit 190 deg after about ten minutes...they are a great way to get started in this hobby if your on a tight budget but if there is any way you can afford a high end motor like a neu get one they are worth every penny and then some.

yea i knew that they run before i actally purchased the motor too, because i reading alot on brushless setups before i went with mine. but i thought id get a cheap feigao anyways cus i knw i dont run my truck as hard as most of you guys, so i thought the feigao will actaully run warm with my style, but i guess no matter how you run, itll still get hot. cus one day i was just going veeeery slow and it still started to heat up, but this was before i got my temp gun, so it was prolly in the 120's after 15 mins.
o well, im still happy with my 7xl for the price i payed, once the new medusa's or cc comes out, ill just sell the 7xl and buy a new motor. |
Has anyone played around with the timing on these motors. I now they are pretty inefficient, but I was reading some advanced timing might help keep temps down.
