How is Hobbycity's UBEC?
 

Anyone use one of these UBEC before. Price seems to be very good.

I use one of those units (not branded "Turnigy", but identical) and I've not got any complaints. It outputs around 5.9V when the jumper's in 6V mode, which sometimes dips to around 5.8V when it's under heavy load. Runs cool though, and it's reliable too. The output/input wires could do with being a tad heavier gauge, but it's not caused any problems for me. Well worth the price if you don't need a higher-performance UBEC, IMO. :smile:

I've ran them on several cars, they work like they should, and are cheap. My only concern is, that I get more glitching with them than without. I have 4 or 5 of them. I have a bad rf problem around my house for some reason I havn't pinned down yet. It doesn't affect brushed cars, but pretty much all the brushless ones do it.

I have a few, and they work fine. They are a bit noisy, and I have had to move them around on the chassis to cure glitching. The ccbec is better, although it has its own issues if it fails (cooking receiver and servos).

Not bad for the price, and I have never had the turnigy fail on me...

I have one in my Elst. No problems yet and its in the radio box right next to the receiver.

my only concern would be if the unit fails would it still allow current to pass....if it does I wouldnt use it, you could lose your Rx and servos if it does

I had the exact same concern. My castle one failed on me and cook both servos...ouch$$$.

Wothless. Mine thermalled within 2400mAh of running.

How many servos are you running? I only have one airtronics 94359z and it dosen't heat up.

FWIW, my personal favorites in testing are the KoolFlight UBEC and the Hercules UBEC for amperage ~3A. For lower amperages, the DimensionEngineering UBEC is really nice. All three of these had no discernable noise, high efficiency, and heat was respectable.

The CC BEC is king for currents >3A and programmability. But as others have said, the fact that it outputs full V on failure is a little worrisome IMO.

That's the one I'm using in my Ultra GTP because I plan to run 8-10s. It tested great, but have yet to use it in real world conditions.

Does anyone know...If this Hobbycity UBEC fails. Does it pass the entire voltage through like the CC or does it just cut the power?

I strongly recommend you to stick by the ones which are higher in quality and capability.

My CCBEC fried a $80 servo, a $50 servo, itself and almost destroyed my $100 Futaba FASST receiver.

You better spend a few bucks on a cutting edge system than to loose all of your radio gear just to save a little sweat.

I checked the Hercules ones and they seem robust and cash worthy.
