MM temps?

What are you seeing on temps on your MM esc. I would like to compare temps with others around so I know if I am having roll issues.

I ran my 8T 4s 1515 1yf 13/48 non modded MM and was up to 175f in a short time (like 5 minutes of track time) Motor was at 110.

I do not have a fan on it yet so I am assuming fans on a MM are a must. Please post up temps you are seeing.

Thanks

Mine thermals all the time with a fan on my E Revo running 4s, Tekno Neu 1.5d, and 22/58 gearing. I am holding out for the MMM.

Adding the extra Cap is a must....

I have one on a CRT.5, so much lighter, and only on 2s. But my gearing is 46/15 with a medusa 36-50-4800. I'm getting 120 on motor and 145 on mm, no external bec

a fan or a cap is not a must, I have neither on my Rustler/MM/4s/9L combo and runs fine its gets warm but not hot unless its over 95 degs outside

I was referring to a must for a truggy / MT on 4s...

There is a bit of a difference between a CRT.5 on 2s / Rustler on 4s (I assume with a bec) and a Revo or 8T on 4s+...

Racing at the weekend Truggies on 5s - 2 setup - both of us were using MM with an ubec and fan - both of us were using the same motor and geared almost the same. I had the extra large cap - the other guy didn't - My temps were fine his thermalled...

An extra cap does help lower temps... Temps I finished at abouy 135 on ESC - Ambient was 100

MM with 1515 1y on 4s runs 135º max, wot constant through grass and dirt in 8T. My 1515 1.5d will get MM to 170º within 3 minutes of wot in emaxx 3905, only good for quick tests or it will fry. Waiting for MMM for the 1.5d.. each have a 25mm novak.. it was about 90º with knife cutting humidity last runs

I ran my MM ESC with a UBEC and fan on 4s for a very long time in my old buggy, and my Revo is still have. It never went into thermal once. I think the highest it ever got is around 165*F to 170*F, and that was at the end of the run... but I don't run at the track so that could explain why I have such low temps... Usually, it hovers around 145*F. And now that it is in my CRT.5 running 4s, it hasn't gone above 125*F as far as I know.

I think a lot has to do with the motor you are running with the MM. The Tekno Neu 1.5 I have I know draws a lot of amps....

Yeah exactly, its just too much for a MM. No fans, caps or ice cubes will be safe for use with the 1.5d, guess the 1515/1y is the max the MM will take reliably. We should have our Monsters soon though

1/8th buggy running Lehner 1940/7 and fan on MM; I never get over 135. It would get to about 180 without the fan (still never thermaled).

xray truggy

4s and 5s

tekno neu 1515 1y

16/48

mamba max with cap , fan and holes in case

never over 145*

fishmasterdan 07.21.2008 07:49 PM

So what size caps do you prefer?? 16/48 in a truggy is pretty fast, is that for bashing? Would be pretty darn cool if that was track temps.

Sounds like a fan is good for about 30f decrease in temps. Is there any consistancy in temp changes with a cap??

Any low-ESR capacitor (look for 105*C temp rating) that has a voltage rating at least 25% more than the highest battery voltage you will use, and at least 500uF. You can parallel a couple/few lower capacity ones to get the total value you need (ex: three 330uF = 990uF total)

Thanks BrianG.

I just got back from the track and ran HARD for 10 minutes. 135esc 120 batteries 140 on the motor. I even went up one gear to a 14/68.

Only thing I changed was I added a fan to the MM.

The fan was good for: an approx changed of 40f. WOW big difference a fan makes.
