Should I use an external bec w/my MGM
Just wondering if I should run an external bec w/my controller...(MGM 160)
|
If it has a built-in switching BEC, I would say you do not "need to". However, it won't hurt anything if you do.
|
I would assume if I do to as usual remove the red wire...(middle wire )
|
Yes. Failing to do so will most likely cause one BEC to heat up fast.
Just curious, assuming the MGM you are referring to does have a switching BEC, why do you want to disable it? |
I am running this one...http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...MM160183sHCS01 I have seen some forum member w/external ones w/this controller. Being new to MGM I was unsure of any issues w/it. Just being overly cautious I guess.

Well, it says it has a switching BEC, so I would think you'd be ok. But if you don't feel comfortable using it, go ahead and use the external one. To keep UBEC wiring tidy, you could do something like I did with the MMM: http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13512

I really like what you did w/your mod...super clean. I may consider doing that later. For now I may leave it stock and see what happens...maybe.
|
Thanks! But, if you go that route, make sure the UBEC input/output grounds are electrically common, and the ESC power ground is electrically the same point as the throttle cable ground.

If and when I do this mod I WILL look you up again...thanks Brian for the advice! |
Magman,
That is a great controller, I have last years model and yes I’m required to run an external BEC, you do not need one your is IE (plug and play) lucky guy!.. You will need to program it to your radio and then setup the ESC. thou.. Good luck with that one.. if you get stuck along the way PM with questions or comments and try to help where I can or search the forum, we have loads of threads on how to program it either by computer or radio system.. Have a great one.. Shaun |
I have the usb & cc_02 cable and started setting it up the other night. It is different than the mmm esc. MGM should copy CC as far as their programming/set up goes, the mmm is much simpler and easier.
