How do you define a Monster Truck?
With the advent of the Truggy ----- Where is the line between MT & Truggy? I'm confident, you guy's will know. BTW-- a picture is worth a thousand words.............. N |
IMO if it has a high center of gravity and has big wheels it is a MT. If it has a low center of gravity and big wheels it is a truggy. If it has a low center of gravity and small skinny wheels it is a buggy.
That is a very broad way to explain it but that is what i look at. |
i think truggys are different because they run 3 diff setup and wing mounts like buggys and mts usually run a transmission, no wing and have higher ground clearence...
dont hold me to it though :D |
Stretched Buggy = Tripple diff = Truggy
Transmission = MT |

you can mod any vehicle to look differently. you need to take in account just stock vehicles.

I think Nic's asking this in relation to the speed challenge - Any hence a revo with zero ground clearance on foams - Is it still a MT?

that is correct... It is so broad on how to classify a vehicle. Stock is pretty easy to determine but who honestly keeps the RC stock no days. Then you have on-raod cars that use transmissions. IMO it is more the physical layout and handling of the vehicle rather than the drive train. ex it looks like a MT with the big wheels and truck body but it handles like a on-raod racer because it is so low. That i would call more of a truggy now but put a buggy body on it then what is it? basically this applies Buggy + Truck = Truggy. IMO a truggy handles real well but looks good and get through some rough terrain. A buggy handles beautiful but is limited to terrain. MT is almost never limited by terrain but handles like crap for racing. but either one of these you can mod to handle like another. You can file things down add longer shocks to a buggy and it will handle like a MT. Or vice versa.

For speed challenges, I would set specific requirements for each based on ground clearance, weight, and body style.

These should be the base rules in my opinion. I also think there should be a freestyle competition where anything goes though.
MT: High ground clearance 6" or larger tires/No foams Chassis built above diffs Transmission Truck or SUV body No Sway bars No wing Minimum 12" Wheelbase Truggy: Chassis below diffs 5.5" or larger tires/foams acceptable Center Diff/No tranny Lower ground clearance Truck or SUV body Wings acceptable Sway bars acceptable |

Just remember the T-Maxx series has 5.75" tires except the newest T-Maxx
