Would the Medusa 36-60-1500 be a good 6S motor?
Like the Title says, a good question here.
I'm looking for a kickass motor for my New E Revo. Together with the Monster Mamba, perhaps we shall go where no man has gone before. Perhaps into a zone beyond sight and sound. The Twilight zone. LOL What's the best gearing for this? I prefer the Mod 1 gears. A 40 tooth Mod 1 Nitro spur. |
I would think def yes, powerful but not overpowered.

It does reasonably well in my hyper8. I have that motor and the 1600 kv version. I will say that some sort of heatsink is a good idea. I plan to gear the 1600kv motor down and run it on 6s.
Although most seem to think that a 40k rpm max is a good idea, higher end motors seem to work well closer to 50k rpm. I have run a variety of motors that high. Usually 3000kv plus motors on 4s. Hacker c50 8l, Hacker c50 maxx, plett maxx with and w/o fans, nd a few others. Feigao motors do not like over about 35k rpms. I have a few more motors that I plan to use on 4s that will stay around 50k rpm max... You should be ok with the 1500kv on 6s... |
Yes, I run a 1521/1Y (1577Kv) with 6S in my BPP truggy. I also run it on 5S and did do a few 10S runs just because I was curious . BTW, I'm going to use lincpimp's B50-11XL (1435Kv) with 6S as well.

Not sure if this is any help buuuuuuuut......
I ran a 10L in the Hyper to start, really didn't have the kick I was looking for. Switching to an XL can really made all the difference in the world. I guess where I'm going with this is that I think maybe the 60mm can might be a bit short for your application? Of course, I have no experience with medusas, so take that with a grain of salt! All I know now is that the 10XL is a monster in there. |
IMO a 60mm Medusa is alot better then a xl motor. At least comparing a 2000 to a 8xl.It has more torque, speed, and runs cooler.I have the 2000 in my Erevo and the 8xl in my 3905.The medusa does just fine on 6s,at least for as long as my esc can handle.

I ran the 1500 in my maxx and had heat issues on 6s. I had to gear down to 35 with it just to keep temps in check. It's a great motor but not enough for a monster truck in my opinion. I think asheck has better luck being a a more moderate climate. Temps in Houston right now are always high 90's to mid 100's so that could have been part of my problem.
Of course noting asheck's last sentence, the controller was the hardest to keep temps down on. This was all on an mgm 16018 however and I do plan to try it again once I get my MMM back next week. Right now I am sticking with the neu 1515/2.5d. |
You got it man. Right now temps are 99, which makes it kinda hard to shed heat! I watched the temps on my 10XL on my buggy yesterday, it was running 153 when I checked, and it was hot as blazes out there yesterday too.

How about a pair of those 30mm wide heat sink/fan setups? I wonder if that would keep temps in check? I'm in Missouri. It's really HOT right here now too. I plan on using Mod 1 gears. Probably something like 18/40 gearing. |
I live in KC.I'd say mine will stay under 150 at 85 outside.I just don't drive when it's hotter.

the 1300kv is a better motor for 6s
