1515/2.5D on 4s?
Hey guys...
I have two trucks at the moment, in my E-Truggy I run a 1515/1y (2200kv) on 4s and it's a rocket ship. VERY fast, maybe even too fast, but it is just what I wanted in a truggy. I also started racing an E-Revo this year and out of the last 6 races, I've won all but 1 at my local track running it with the Stock Titans. Amazingly both my race times and even my lap times are very comparable to my truggy times despite the E-Revo being super slow in stock trim on 4s. That showed me first hand that often times slower is actually faster. With the E-Revo, I can put it exactly where I want. On the Truggy I'm often times hanging it out there and making up time on the straights or clearing the double-single as a huge triple. Regardless I have begun to second guess my original idea of strapping in another 1515/1y (when I can find one!) to the E-Revo because I don't need it to be nearly as fast as my Truggy. I would like more speed but not much more...maybe 25%. So I'm wondering if anyone has used a 1515/2.5D (1700kv) on 4s...how is it? Too slow? Not the right voltage to make the motor come "alive"? Just curious. If it can work, it may be less power hungry than the 1515/1y which would be very good b/c I'd like to run some of the longer mains. Thanks! |
I havnt tried it but I think 4s is a bit under powered if you want a little less speed you could either gear down your 1515/1y or try a 2d on 4s

if you dont wanna shell out just yet for another big setup you could try one of those 700HO brushed motors on 4s or even 5s if you had a 3s you could stick in one side.....from what ive read and seen it would give you right at the extra 25% your looking at and its only $35 = butt loads cheaper than a 1515 and ESC .....worth a try i would think.

In my truggy I've used my 1515 2.5d on 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s. I usually raced it on 5s geared for ~35mph. I like that setup.
I've raced it a little bit on 4s when there was a 4s battery limit (stupid rules), geared it up a bit to get similar top end to 5s. Worked pretty well, bit less punch, but still enough if you don't need the fastest car to get good times. I kept the same 4s gearing and did some practice laps on 3s. I'd say it was about the same sort of speed and acceleration as the titans on 12 cell nimh, with much lower temps and more runtime. If the 1y is too much then the 2.5d should be enough, there's also the 2050kv 2d which is kind of in between the 2, just gear it to the speed you want. |
did you guys notice any temperature difference between 4s and 5s???

Thanks for the posts guys...I guess I see all the super fast revo's breaking down and I felt like the 1515/1y in my Truggy is an animal, I'm worried that it will be too much for the plastic E-Revo. The 2d sounds like a real option, I've been so in love with the Tekno Edition motors that I've not looked elsewhere and since they don't have a 2d, I'm not sure...oh well, no matter, they are not in stock ANYWHERE which is also frustrating. I'm going to let the gods of in-stock products guide my choice.
Has anyone ever rec'd a stock notice from Tekno? I added my email to let me know when they got more motors weeks ago and have not rec'd anything. |
I sent Tekno an e mail if they were going to have the 1515/2y available in the Tekno version and got a quick response....maybe it get lost I would try sending them another one

I have a 1515 2.5d that I have run on 4s in my buggy. It worked fine. A little slow on the top end, but low temps and really good runtime. You can gear it to the moon too. It wasn't very snappy, but definitely worked.

Just noticed the 1515/2.5d is IN STOCK at Impakt! That makes this even harder now...

mike also has the 1515 2.5d instock unless the one i just got in the mail today was the only one he had...

I'm running mine on 4S until the MMM comes out. Runs well enough but a little light on the top end. Still as fast as the .28 nitro trugs tho down the straight w/ better accel.
I let Mike drive my ST and he was clearing a triple no problem. It didn't have the punch his did on 5S/2.5D, but it did the job well enough. In the races I didn't feel like I had a lack of power vs the nitros or other trucks on the track. I wasn't using high end batts either. I was geared for ~35. Don't plan on basting down the straights making up time on nitros tho. You'll be pretty even. For me, it did pretty well as I wasn't as tempted to overpower things and crash and lose time. At my skill level right now that's a good thing until I am able to apply a ton of power usefully. That said I do have 5S batts coming lol. Also, the revo just won't be as reliable as a trug if you put alot of power thru it. It may be wise to keep it manageable. |
