Blast from the past. Bell Bottoms, Big Hair, Platform Shoes, Vintage RC's

Was cleaning up space on the PC, going through old RC pics. I am sure this will bring back some memories for some. I'm fairly new to the RC world. Collected Nikko, Radio Shack, toy RC's for a year or so before I got into the hobby grade. Anyway... I found this about three years ago at a thrift store for 1.99. Didn't have a controller or anything. It was my first experience trying to get something running that wasn't the desposible rc type. I had no idea what I was doing. It works now though! Used it for desk fan in the garage for a while.

I know there's some collectors out there. Anyone else want to share a photo of the 70's, 80's, 90's?

Thats the coolest deskfan I've ever seen, lol.

I remember this tank-tracked RC car, back in the 90s. It was kinda like a buggy, and the tracks where larger at the rear, then tapered downwards towards the front- looked trianglular from the side if you get my meaning. Anyone remember that thing?

kulangflow 08.10.2008 12:34 PM

Neil, that's the Tyco FastTraxx.

I still have the Tyco 9.9V Turbo Bandit. (The harley davidson version). Very cool.

suicideneil 08.10.2008 12:50 PM

Im so old... lol. I see there is an even larger version, the super fasttraxx- wonder what that would be like with a pair of CC systems inside it...

Okay, so who remembers Stingray?

That stingray can really get up and go huh? I like the Tyco commercials. Looks like their jumping the Grand Canyon.

Kulangflow, you got a picture of the Harley Davidson Turbo Bandit? I've never seen the HD Bandit.

I first saw the Tyco Turbo Bandit watching RC's on Ebay. Couldn't figure out what was so hot about the them. When ever someone would list one. People were all over that auction. I bid on a couple but the ones in great shape would come close to getting 100.00. Well past what I was going to pay just to see what they were about. They stuck in my mind though. Then one day I was making the rounds at the local thrift stores. I could see the toy rack (way in the back corner) when I entered one of the stores. I couldn't believe it. Was it really a Turbo Bandit back there. I b-lined it past the used lingerie section, through the as is electronics without taking my eye of that sucker. Looked like Walter Payton running over those unexpecting kids playing with the broken toys on the floor. SWEETNESS! Sure enough, A Tyco Turbo Bandit 9.6v WITH A CONTROLLER! It's rare to find any controllers at those places. Jumping for joy, looking like I just got my Red Rider BB gun for christmas. All those times stopping and checking for RC's may just have paid off! Couldn't wait to get it home to see if it worked. I held back my grin while I was paying for it. If she knew what these things were going for on e-bay. She probably charge me more the .99 cents they were already gouging me for. I wanted to tell her but couldn't. Long story but got it home and it worked great. Missing the bumpers and battery hold down. They get up and move for a little RC. It's a conversation piece now. Looking to score the 9.6v Turbo Hopper now. Got the AA battery ones but not the elusive 9.6v. As you may have guess for a couple weeks after that discovery I was a regular at the thriftstores everyday looking for the next motherload.

I'll have to see if I can come up with one tonight. I'm at the in-laws right now.

Any of you remember the BigTrak? And it even has it's own Wiki page!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigtrak

I had the darker gray one, wish I still had it!

This was right about the time the RC toys were showing up in the toy stores, my first RC was called Firefox, it was a Lamborghini Cheetah, can't remember who made it, wasn't radio shack tho. And my second (I think) was the yellow Jeep that had real inflatable tires and IIRC it only went forward or reverse and turn lol.

Yeah them were the days uhhhh I guess...... maybe not so much for RC!

I remember when I was younger.. I was begging and had the Tyco Typhoon II and Scorcher 6x6, but only 4WD though... I remember fast traxx, there also was a Fast Traxx II wasn't there?.. it was a little bit bigger than the original...

suicideneil 08.11.2008 10:15 AM

That was the super fastraxx.

I used to have this cool little robotbutler once upon a time- the remote was teathered so it wasnt R/C as such, but it could move forward/back and spin around left or right, and had a little serving tray and dustpan & brush...

I miss the 90s...

LOL I had one of those.... I wonder if its still sitting on a shelf in my parents basement. I'll have to go check next time I'm over there. That thing was slow as hell, but I loved it back then.

It's a crappy pic from my cell, but you'll get the idea.

HD Turbo Bandit! How cool. That is a rare vintage RC for you. Thanks for the pic!

Ive had many old tyco and radio shack cars in the 90's including the vertigo, rebound, RS Hummer 4x4, couple RS 2wd cars, couple of old xmods, and a few zip zaps. Unfortunately due to the nature of the hobby, their all destroyed.

kulangflow 08.13.2008 10:20 AM

I have a couple of XMods. I was going to toss them or give them away, but then I thought about how cool they'd be in 20 years when they're no longer made. Hmmm, I just thought of an idea for a new thread.
