diff fluid question
i have a savage with a 9xl on 4s and its running hot. geared 20/52 i have to stop every 5-10 min because im hitting almost 190...does the diff fluid make a difference in heat? im using thick fluid which makes the driving more fun. im running on sand if that helps, would a lighter fluid make any difference? i think its 30000 front and rear

those xl motor gets hot period. but 190 after 5 mins seems pretty bad. yes running on sand will get the motor hotter quicker. and i dont think diff fliud makes any differernce. i had 30,000 and now i have 85,000 in the front and 50,000 in the rear, and exact same temps.

If anything you'll have less unloading with the thicker fluid, which should help keep temps lower I'd think. Any difference would be minimal. If there's a center diff, that can make quite a difference though. If it's constantly unloading to the front tires, then the motor can be overworked by constantly revving too high.
