5mm bore 48 pitch pinions

Does anyone know if 48 pitch pinions can be bored out to 5mm? Or if the shaft on a neu 1506 could be turned down to 1/8? Here's the thing I need to finish my blizzard badly but the spur is 48 pitch. And I will not use anything but a neu or a basic 5300 and the basic 5300 is impossible to get my hands on.

I just emailed them. They have the pinions in the 36-42 tooth range and I'm looking for something in the 25-35 t range. I asked him about pinions and about turning down the shaft on the 1506 which would be killer then I could use any gear I wanted (which I already have). Thanks bro. O and by the way I'll report back here when they let me know incase anyone else is interested.

Do you already have the 1506? If not, just order it with 1/8th shaft.

I had no idea that was possible, I'll email them right now thanks bud.

Ok I just talked to dan and he does in fact have all the smaller 48 pitch 5mm bore pinions on his site ..I just over looked them. As for "turning down" the shaft he said forget it. I'm going to ask mike to order a 1506/1y (5500kv) with an 1/8 shaft so I can use all the gears I already have because the ones on dans site are very expensive.

or convert over to 32p?

I've been using these for a while , they seem good. I ordered 6 on first batch, I just ordered some of the smaller ones on my second batch. They're brass with plenty of meat .

Can get 14-32 tooth. I'd like to know what the difference is with the gearbox option. I ordered mine without.

I would love to switch to a 32 pitch spur, but how? I dont know where to even look for such a thing. That would be great though thanks for the idea bro!

looking at that it seems rather easy

just bolt it in place

coolrunnings 08.11.2008 01:53 PM

Cool, I will look into that thanks. I'm waiting for mike to call me back and if he thinks he can order my 1506 with an 1/8 shaft I'll go that route...if not the 32 pitch spur idea will be my next persuit. Thanks again!

no problem, one thing-i know hackers and feigaos are prone to snapping 1/8th inch shafts, u might want the 5mm anyways

coolrunnings 08.11.2008 02:23 PM

I'll consider it, I'm hoping that wont be a problem because the blizzard is pretty light and I'm just running 2s. But I''ll ask mike about it as well. Thanks man your help is much appreciated.

Basic 5300 here

I would go with the 5mm shaft for the durability. The added cost of the pinions is worth it (or you could use a drill press and drill it to 5mm if you feel like it).
