BLMT2 project [solidworks WIP]

I purchased an HPI MT2 off ebay, so I sold my rustler and tc3, and am going to be selling my beat up Hyper7, along w/ all the nitro stuff that came with the MT2. I bought FIVE 2s 3100mah lipo packs, two 109d lipo chargers, and a powersupply for $350.. planning on running a Feigao540C-9L, with the packs in a 4s2p 6200mah pack, and sell the extra 2s pack.. 14.8volts should be good (49,506rpm). I got my trusty ruler out the other night, and started getting measurements.. and last night I started CADing a new chassis for it..

originally, I wanted to lay the packs down along the sides, just like I designed my rustler's chassis.. this doesn't work with a spur gear in the middle..
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/8...sem16mo.th.jpg

standing them up seemed to work..
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/4...sem28mr.th.jpg

skip ahead, I made 2 heatsink/chassis reinforcement pieces.. the center spool you see is modled after an ofna PirateMT spool.. the spur size is alot bigger than what I'll actually be running..
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/4...der15ur.th.jpg

threw in a Hacker C50XL and a 15t M1 pinion, just so I could get a better idea of how it'd look..
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/7...der28og.th.jpg

top deck, 1/16" aluminum.. I forgot to say the bottom will be 1/4" 6016 aluminum with extensive milling to reduce weight. (my rustler chassis out of 1/4" 7075 was WAY to heavy)

made top deck transparent so you (ME) can see what's going on..

side view:
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/4...sem49ox.th.jpg

front view, you can see there's not much room between the spur and the lipo's.. the spur i'm going to be using will be smaller though..
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/7...sem52if.th.jpg

top view, you can see the holes in the top and bottom deck around the spur.. the front bearing holder, and rear bearing holder / motor mount will be keyed to the top and bottom chassis for more strength.
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/2...sem66pl.th.jpg

front brace in place.
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/3...sem76hr.th.jpg

rear brace/ motor mount done..

quick render:

closeup of the motor mount.. top deck will be screwed into the two little "tabs" that stick out..

Nice CAD job!

On 14.8V, this will be a mean MT2!

Have you seen the videos and pictures of Camel_RC's BL MT2? He runs 9 cells and a Feigao S.

Keep us updated. And welcome to the RCM forum. Glad to have another converter here!

Looks good so far!!

Are you going to have it machined?

I would skip the heatsink. You don't want 2 lipoly to be cooled from the 8 pack. You'r better of when they are the same temp.

You are going to use a slipper with no diff? why is that? a diff takes a lot of stress from the drivetrain! it would be easy to fit one in!

Welcome to the forum and it looks very very good!

About your motorchoice; The 7XL would be quite a nifty preformer on the 4S lipo! a cool and everlasting setup.. That's your goal right? i mean, 6200mAh.. :p

yeah, camel's mt2 is what made me decide to buy one, and sell everything else to keep focused on it.. (put more money into it)

I was actually thinking about making heatsinks on the inside too.. like sandwiching the lipo's. I'm going with the slipper because that's all I have.. if I wanted to throw a diff in there later, the bearing size would be different (from my mt2 to say a Hyper7 diff), but i could have the holes enlarged, and it'd pop right in..

I've been hearing about how great the C motors are on the RCCA and URC boards.. and only S cans and a 9L are available so far.. the 9L seems like it'll work perfect if I can keep the weight down. I'd like to try a Plettenberg, but $ IS an issue, so that won't be the first motor I try in it.

thanks for the warm welcome.. I just realized I had registered the name DualBL before, but forgot about it.. oh well =\

Will you sell the chassis? How many cells will it fit and in what formation?

I don't own a mill, so it's not up to me. I've got a friend that has the cnc. i'm sure if demand is high enough...
right now, it'll hold two 6sxs subc packs.. I can modify the design a tiny bit, and it should fit 8 per side, for 16total.

*edit
also, nice name :( I went to register "-nick" and it said it was already taken.. aparently, it won't recognize the hyphen :(

Serum 10.21.2005 11:57 AM

there is no need to cool the cells. It adds too much weight really. the inernal resistance of those new lipolys is so low, they don't get hot enough to be thermal damaged.

Stay away from the way overrated plettenbergs.

Nick 10.21.2005 11:57 AM

Is it possible to have 2 rows of cells, stacked (sub-c)?

Got to love the name Nick. :D

Serum 10.21.2005 12:06 PM

Looking at the size of the spur and those lipolys i don't think so Nick

layed down, no.. look at the first picture.. if they're on their side, they'll fit though.

the design is no where near completion, and I've got alot of designing hours ahead of me, so I'll try and revise it a bit, thanks for the tips serum.

camel_rc 10.21.2005 05:20 PM

This is going to be crazy when you get it going.

dabid 10.21.2005 06:27 PM

What's up, DualBL? That project looks like it'll be great, at the very least you'll know what it's going to look.

A4DTM 10.23.2005 06:38 AM

just kind of tinkering.. chances are, I'll have lighter braces than the heatsinks on the lipos.. (serum) ;)

I'm not sure if my buddy can cut chamfers on all the edges though... but if he can, I'll do it, cause it looks sick..

quick chassis render:
http://img452.imageshack.us/img452/1...der65vq.th.jpg

higher quality render.. perhaps ill anodize it?
http://img452.imageshack.us/img452/9...der95ot.th.jpg

animation w/ and w/ out topdeck, and inside heatsinks.. i was just tinkering :W:
http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/692/k4uq.th.gif

eh?

A4DTM 10.23.2005 09:15 AM

8am, didn't sleep...
better, or worse?
http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/2...race2xk.th.jpg

i have to start trimming the weight before I add anything else =\
