What is the best battery setup for a CRT?
I'm reconfiguring my Jammin CRT Truggy. I have the MMM v2 and a 1515 1700kv Neu motor and I'm currently running two max amps 4s 5000 mah packs in parallel. Which sometimes isn't so great because if you get a dirty connection at one of the deans it will only feed off one battery which equals an overheated pack.
I would like to go to a single battery setup, but I want to go with a setup that will be very cool running because it is very hot here. Sometimes I will check my motor temp before even running it and it will be over 100*F. I'm kind of thinking about going with a 5s or 6s quality pack. I kind of like the Poly RC 6s 25c 6000, but that is a large pack. Would it be too heavy on one side? I not currently racing it, but I do run it on a track. What do you guys recommend for a cool running single battery setup on a CRT? |
IMO, a 6s 6Ah pack is too much for one side if you are running a single pack. I run the 1515 1700kV with 5s and wouldn't think of going up in voltage. It requires you to run low capacity packs to keep the weight within reason. Your set up should be fine in the heat if you have a well ventilated body and 5s with proper gearing.

I have gone with 5s PQ 4350 mah and Zippy 5s 4000mah battereis in my X2 crt running a Medusa 1600kv motor .
You will have a cooler running system on 5s and with the PQ pack at 4350mah it is not too heavy and you will have 20mins + runtime . |
Ok, 5s sounds good.
Would this be too heavy? Polyquest 5000mAh 5S 25C Lipoly Spec. Capacity : 5000mAh Cell Model: PF 8643150XP Voltage : 18.5V Charge Current(2C) : 10.0A Continous Dis.(25C) : 125.0A Dimension(mm) : 45.5 * 50.0 * 166 Weight : 639g |

By the way the Zippy even though being 4000mah pack is getting around 4300mah back in when charging , and around 18 mins runtime , at $98 it can't be beat .It's just weighs over 600g so i will use it for heats and the PQ for finals. The 5000mah pack might be ok in a truggy since the truggy is a lot heavier anyway but i don't think i would use it in a buggy . Hopefully someone running one can chime in with there thoughts on this . |
those 5s 5000 Polyquests are what I run in my truggies........never had any problems and they deliver what they say

Thanks for the help guys.
It will be nice to have some quality packs. I'm SOOO tired of the time that it takes to balance the Max Amps packs. It is a huge difference between MA and Flight Power as far as balancing. I have heard a lot of good things about the Zippy packs. I will probable buy some of these as well. Hopefully they are pretty well balanced from the get go. |
