Exloding Hot Water Heater
 

the other day here in Phoenix somebody had thier hot water heater explode and turn into a large rocket ...here is the story and a web site where some guys did this in a controlled enviorment...I wouldnt mind doing this but hot water heaters can be expensive......

Mythbusters did it too. It was awesome- maybe my favorite episode. :neutral: I wonder how big of a tank it was? It must have been pretty large to have such a strong concussion wave and cause all of that collateral damage.

Yeah, I saw the mythbusters episode where they did that...fair bit of power in those tanks.

You can achieve the same effect by chucking a can of baked beans onto a bonfire...

I saw that episode of Myth Busters, it was pretty cool..

Like the guy says, test your relief valve once a yr! These tanks must be extruded with a bottom cap welded on since they seem to always turn into missles. Notice what kind of safety factor they have built into these? It was well over 2x the rated pressure when it went.

It's called a Water Heater...not a hot water heater. There's no need to heat hot water. :whistle:

But yeah, that's pretty wild when they turn into a rocket and splode like that.
