Ofna MBX buggy finally done - nothing special
First off, I am always on a budget so there is nothing fancy onboard this buggy, all function for me.
This is a buggy that I picked up from a buddy for $40, it was basically just a bunch of parts in a box. I bought new shocks, wheels/tires and a few other random pieces and made it work. Built the motor mount from 1/4" thick aluminum sheeting and dremeled it out. For battery mounting purposes I used the Associated battery cups because they were cheap and will fit any lenth battery. This project started life as a NiMh brushless and I now got a 4s Zippy-R 4800 lipo so I have converted it over to lipo so it is now much cleaner. Anyway, its been a fun project and I will improve it more I am sure after get out and hit the track with it. Anyways, here are the specs: Spektrum Race Servo (Airtronics is stripped out) Spektrum DX2 radio system Castle Creations BEC Mtroniks Genesis Truck ESC Medusa Afterburner V2 36-60-2000 Motor Zippy-R 4s 4800mah Lipo And the pics: http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s...63/Medusa3.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/P1000502.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/P1000503.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/P1000504.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/P1000509.jpg |

They're up, sorry messed up.
|
looks good
Can you give some info on the ESC set-up? Are they capacitors?
|
That is a serious conversion. Nice work. That is a massive capacitor too. Looks like you could run the car just off that cap.
|
Thank you!!
The capacitor is just like all of the smaller units that alot of people run on their ESCs to help with power delivery. This ESC came with that cap right out of the box. I am sure that several smaller caps would work better but since this is what it came with, thats what I have been using. As far as the ESC goes, I have been running it extremely hard for about 4 years... it is by far the most reliable piece of equipment that I have used. Zero problems, totally waterproof, handles 4s or 12 cells. I have ran 14 on it quite frequently though. It is only supposed to handle 80A cont. or 120 burst but I have ran a 8XL on it for along time. Just got the Medusa and lipo, hopefully the controller can handle it, if not, I figure a MM is in the future. The ESC is large and heavy but very reliable. |
and how is esc doing now? :) It's waterproofness is something great...

I have still had zero issues with this ESC, I am running it hard on 4S lipo now still in my buggy and it runs right in the 140s usually, it has gotten into the 150s once.
This is also with the internal BEC, I tried running an external BEC but apparently the ESC doesn't like it. Causes major glitching, tried 3 different brand UBECs all with the same result. I currently have an email out to Mtroniks asking about the glitching with UBECs. Oh and I am running a Medusa Research 36-60-2000 motor in case you missed it above. |
Yea, those ESC's are awesome, cant say a bad word about em really. I always ran a RX pack with mine, but it seems like I ran a UBEC and it glitched bad also.

I think you make the second person, other than me, to say they had major glitching with this ESC when using a UBEC. I still haven't heard back from Mtroniks on this... may have to drop them another email. |
That's nice info since dinball has them for 120$ :) Hope he will restock soon...
|
Yeah, that is where I picked mine up... still the same price as it was about 2 years ago.
