Need help setting up hyper 7.
What up my high voltage peoples, I need help setting up my hyper 7. I currently run a BL e-revo and I'm not sure if that's set up right, but that's a whole other thread. :whistle: This will be my second rc car/second brushless setup. I have never ran a nitro setup. :oops: My goal is to have a nitro killer at the track, since we're allowed to run against nitro. It's a small track (26.000 +/- lap times) but I'd also like to run at the big track.

I would like to uses my MM with CCBEC, and I plan on ordering a new motor mount from rc-monster. My questions are... 1. I have an feiago 8xl (with heat sink) motor, and this comes with a 10l. Would either of these be sufficient? I would like to run 4s. 2. I have 2 - 2s2p truerc 6400 batteries. I guess I like them, :neutral: but I have nothing to compare them too. Should I order 2 more for 4s, or should I go a different direction? 3. How am I supposed to attach the batteries to the chassis? I hear the gorilla straps break, any other options? 4. I have been reading about shims. Am I going to need to order some? and what type? 5. Am I missing anything? I guess that's all for now, I appreciate your help. |
8xl on 4s in a buggy could be fine... - The true rc 6400 maybe a bit big/heavy but if you have them why not start there.

I've gone the same route as you with my hyper, and I've been through many redesigns.
1. IMNSHO, the plastic Kyosho spur is junk. I was told it would seal fine; it didn't. I've heard of using the paper gaskets for it, I admit I didn't try those. Messing with the shims never worked well either, always was stiff to turn. The plastic teeth don't hold up well either, if you are going for better than nitro power, you're going to shear teeth. It's a kludge at best. I switched back to a hardened steel spur/pinion combination and that headache went completely away and has never come back. 2. The 12T, 13T and 15T pinions you will probably never use. 12 and 13 are too small, the 15 will probably give you heat problems. 3. Using your monster max with ccbec? Why? It's got one built in, and if you can tell the few extra tenths of a volt, you're a much better man than I am! :wink: FYI, I'm still running my V1 MM with no CCBEC (on 6S) and I've had zero problems. Of course if you are talking a Mamba Max, then yep, you'll need a CCBEC. 4. Feigao 10L motor: In a word, no. I tried it, and didn't like it. I think you need an XL can for a 1/8th buggy if you want it to have some snap to it. 5. As for shims, you won't need 'em if you stay away from that plastic spur sillyness. :lol: Trust me, you want the durability of steel. When you land a jump at full throttle or full brake, guess where all of the force of that goes? Yep, right in the teeth! I know you're not supposed to land like that, but that's how you save a bad landing. Hope this helps you out and saves you from going through the same troubles I have. Personally, I think that 6S A123 and a 10XL can't be beat. I want to order another feiago xl that I can swap from hyper to revo. What would be the best one for 4s? It would be nice if I could do 6s down the road when the MMM are good, but mainly 4s.

8xl is your best bet, i run mine on 5s... if you want more versatility get a 9xl

Do you mean that the 9xl will run cooler vs. 8xl?

The MMM are good now. I'm still trying to kill my V1, and no luck so far. :) If you go from 4S to 6S you'll need a new motor. Otherwise, you'll have a motor that does both equally poorly, IMHO.

So there is no feiago that can handle both 4s and 6s?

I just find high voltage more conducive to a nice running setup. I'm running a 6S A123 (yeah, I know, it's 5S lipo equivalent) pack through a 10XL geared 14/46. It's set up for 40 mph, which is plenty to get the job done. Houston is hot as heck in the summer, and my setup consistently runs 150 - 160, even on days with high humidity and temps reaching up into the 100's -- and yeah, with one of those el-cheapo "hot" Feigaos. It's true my environmental conditions impose limits on me, which I have to overcome. That leads to a setup that stays well within the limits of reasonability. I know lots of folks run 4S setups and don't have problems. That may be, but I don't think they'd do well down here. I'm happy to run a cheap motor and lots of cells to keep my temps down. I have more performance than I can handle, and I get to save money. As always, YMMV. :intello: |
