i was hoping i could just get the allready anodized black by fast lane since they are the ones that are making them for rc-monster

FLM dont do anodizing. It will cost you alot for just those cases, as anodizing is done buy the basket full in batches, so the more stuff you get done in a batch, the cheaper it works out per item.

PS I'm not sure that anodising is that good of an idea as will mess with the tolerances on the diff... Difficult to only do the outside...

anodising is not like painting, it will not change the tolerances at all, infact it will protect the aluminum from oxidazation as well as material striping caused by exposure to the bonding agents is the diff grease and thouse two will change the tolerance

as of afew years ago they did do anodising

FLM never did anodizing. That Rustler in the link was custom anodized, says so in the post, done by MR.

Anodizing, by definition, does add a thin layer of "material". Not much, but it does. How much depends on the method used.

In our applications you'll never note the difference though. A 3mm thread will not be affected, for example.
