neu issue
In my 8 with the takno kit and a tekno long shank pinion with a neu 1512 2.5,I was practicing on the track and after about 5 minutes it sounded like the pinion had loosened up,I pulled the body off and noticed the shaft of the motor sticking out the backside of the motor:gasp:
I have raced this bugggy 2 weekends using the clutch setup, but I wanted to chage over to the pinion and get rid of the clutch. Has anyone had this problem,is there anything I can do beside sending the motor back to stop this from happening? Thanks, Kevin |
I had a similar issue last weekend and sent the motor off to Neu - It arrived last Thursday but not heard anything yest - Mine was a 1515 2.5 d/f
|
My 1st 2y had this happen. It was a rotor failure and Neu repaired and upgraded for free. Hopefully this doesn't become a widespread issue now that they are being used heavily in cars. You only ever crash a plane once lol.

Got any photos?
|
no photo, talk to neumotors,he told what to do to try and fix it myself,or send it in for them to fix it
|
What did he say to do?
|
to take motor apart, draw a diagram for shim placement.
mark shaft for magnet placement, pull apart, use a heavy grit sandpaper to scuff up the shaft where magnet sits.Use acetone and a q-tip to clean inside of magnet, and use green locktite i believe he said 968 locktite, btu definately said green to glue the shaft and magnet back together. I have motor apart and the shaft was smooth where the magnet was,I have scuffed it up and will be going to get some green locktite shortly |
Interesting, Im sure everyone is interested to hear how well this fix works. Must be better than good old normal CA glue Im sure..

The same thing happened to my Neu 1515/2Y (magnet separated from the motor shaft).
http://www.braintrust.at/2007/ds/rc/neu1515_img04.jpg Sending the motor from Europe back to Neu was no option for me as i didn't wanted to wait more then 2 Weeks (or longer). I reglued it myself and the next day i could drive my car with this motor again. I was suggested to use Loctite 638 or 648, but used a cheaper alternative brand. Did work for me. But i still have a Neu 1512 with a broken shaft (next to the reglued Neu 1515 rotor). http://www.braintrust.at/2007/ds/rc/...2_rotors02.jpg I bought a new 5mm steel shaft but was NOT able to separate the magnet from its broken shaft. I think i should try to contact Neu if they know an "easy" way to loosen the shaft. |
I would have thought sending it in would be easier, if time wasnt an issue for the 1512, but I understand.
|
IMO, sending it in would be preferable. If something doesn't quite turn out right (or if there are problems) let Neu handle it...
|
neu told me they have to use heat to get the shifts apart after having this done.
I couldn't find the locktite they told me to use,but found what i think is the same thing in locktite cylinder sleeve glue,it is green and made for high heat and if it strong enough to hold a cylinder sleeve in a engine it should hold the magnet on the shaft. I am done with the process, and will find out this weekend if it holds up,if not the motor will go back to neu. |
I had the same thing happen to a 1515 (actually bought it that way for a smoking deal) and sent it back to neu. I had it back in 4-5 days with a new shaft/magnet and they even upgraded the rear endbell to the screw retained type. All for free...
I have to say that it is the best motor I own (next to the pletts) with the best service I can imagine (don't want to think about plett's service:oh:) |
cool,hopefully this works for me.
If not,I will send it in,the guy at neumotors was great, spending the time he did with me to try and get this problem taken care of,makes me feel alot better now that I own 2 of them:yipi::party: |
