MM & Team Orion Motor Cogging Issues
So i am using a Team Orion 17.5 sensored brushless motor on a MM and in my Stadium truck and i am having a lot of cogging issues. It just kind of stutters for a while when on the ground when trying to take off. What settings should i be using on the MM with a sensored motor?

What's your overall gearing and what batteries are you using?

I am using a 87 tooth spur and 20 tooth pinion. I am also using some good SMC 4600mah nimh's. The truck is a Losi XXT MF2.

try increasing start power
|
I also had this issue while running my sensored motors. Make a steep throttle curve from about 0%-25% and then make the rest of the 75% linear. This helped my issue alot and I barely noticed any cogging after that.

It doesn't sound like a sensored motor issue per se, just that the kv is kinda low for the voltage being used. 17.5 turn is probably a low kv motor. It just sounds like the motor is not spinning fast enough at low speeds for the ESC to get a good rotor position reading.
Increasing the start power and twiddling with the throttle curve should help a lot if this is the case. You gotta get it spinning fairly fast right off the bat, then the ESC should be able to read positions fine. |

we said that... :na: |
I know, I was just repeating it.
BTW: Did you get the pinion yet? |
yep :D

 Sorry you both did say that too. |
Hey as long as hes clarifying it Im fine with people repeating things.

Well i set the start power on high and that helped a lot. I also played with the throttle curve but no matter what it did not seem to make much of a difference. It still cogs right when i pull the trigger but then after it's going no problems what so ever. Any other advice to get rid of the start cog? Besides buying a sensored ESC. I want to race this truck but that start cog is going to be an issue. If i do have to get a sensored ESC and recomendations?

Normally I wouldn't suggest this, but what about a Tekno clutch adaptor? That will allow the motor to spool up a little before engaging the vehicle. Of course, you won't have motor braking with this setup...
|
It's only a 1/10th scale truck so i don't think that would work. Isn't the Tekno made for 5mm shafts?
