MMM internal BEC
I'am waiting for my MMM, suppose to be here next weak. I've always run my previous ESC with an external BEC, i've a Koolflight UBEC sitting here. I want to know if i can completly remove the internal BEC on the MMM (cut the wire inside of the case) or should i simply remove the red wire on the plug like i did with all of my others controller.
I know if i only remove the red wire, the internal BEC is always active, but not suply voltage to the Rx. But can i completly disable it??????????? |
IIRC it can't be made opto - Brians v1 mod did as best as you could get IMO...
You can re-wire the fan to run off the rx that would save load and mean the fan running 100% of the time. |
I'd like to get a hold of some V1's and pull out all the switching regulator parts, and then use the MMM as an Opto. When/if my V1 goes bad, I'll try that instead of sending it in since the warranty is sightly voided anyway.

Please BrianG, tell me if i can remove the entire BEC in the MMM?
|
Not sure yet. I know Patrick stated what had to be removed, but I'm not gonna do anything until/if my V1 bites it.

Hi BrianG,
I had a V1 failed on me a while back & it's still sitting in a box. I'm so far away from CC that I am kind of reluctant to send it back if I can do something about it. The point I'm trying to get to is that the sub standard part Patrick mentioned as the root cause of the non flaming type failure is one of the components u removed to eliminate the internal BEC altogether? If this is the case, this is very good info. I can try to mess up the broken V1 even more in the hope that 2 wrongs make a right. Regards, Joe Ling |
Perhaps you've seen this thread: http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12627
Per Patrick's instructions, I removed the BEC components and used an external UBEC to power servos/rx, and the ESC internals. Be warned, this most certainly voids the warranty! And I take no responsibility if the ESC doesn't work after the mod. |
Yep Brian, when i saw that thread, I got a little excited. I understand warranty will be void if I do something like what u did. So, was it that one of the BEC components failure that took out the V1's? If that is the case, I will try the mod to see if I could revive my V1 MMM.

As to which exact component was at fault, you'll have to ask Patrick, but IIRC, it was the switcher IC (the 8 pin device I removed).
|
The red wire will be required for programming and I know that on my v1 when that part died I could not program the esc.
Edit: Reading threw your thread brian that is some good info. |
