Should I go brushless: Truggy? Buggy? 1/12 truggy? (crt.5)?? Need help! (have MM/VXL)

I was thinking about doing a brushless buggy conversion but ultimately I want to put some taller/wider tires on it, so started thinking a truggy would be a better base.

I have a MM powered traxxas rustler now (on 3s) and it is nice..BUT I want 4wd!

I have an MM controller with a VXL motor and two 3s 5000mah packs. I am debating what I should do..sell the rustler RTR as a brushless, or part it out and save the controller/motor/batts.

I want 4wd but am debating between a 1/8 buggy (truggy?) conversion or the smaller truggy conversion (full 1/8 truggy maybe???)

I am slightly on a budget so keeping the equipment I have now would be nice. The one downfall is that I dont like that the crt.5 is smaller than a rustler (by about 2 inches+ on every dimension).

I have some 1/8 (17mm) tire adapters on my rustler now and run 1/8 buggy tires and some ofna blazer SST tires (about 5 inches tall and 2.2 inches wide). I was hoping to re-use these tires on whatever I get next. Would these tires look ridiculous on a crt.5? I saw a picture of another members crt.5 with some gladiator II tires on it (im familiar with them) and it made the truggy look pretty small... I think even some masher 2000 would look HUGE on a crt.5

What do you guys thing I should do? I am willing to invest a couple hundred dollars on top of whatever I do (IE..selling the rustler RTR, or parting it out). Should I just maybe grab a full size 1/8 buggy roller, convert it and run my blazer SST tires on it?

I just want 1/2 to 1 inch or so more ground clearance than a regular 1/8 buggy, but want extreme durability and low maintenance. I would prefer it to be the size of a rustler, or even slightly bigger. Think I am just better off going with a 1/8 buggy and putting my blazer tires on it? That would require new equipment (motor/controller/batts)...unless i can lengthen/widen the crt.5 somehow?

The length of the mayhem st pro is 19.4 and the width is 16.5

The crt.5 is 14 length / 11 width

The rustler is 16.7 length / 12.6 width
My rustler is probably about 17.5 length and 14+ width.

For comparison an ofna 1/8 buggy I looked up (hyper 8.5) shows up as 18 length / 12 wide

SO.... I am still confused... Should I go with a true 1/8 truggy so I can run truggy tires or my blazer tires.

Get the crt.5 and try to make it wider/longer (thinking I dont like this idea...seems to small too me)

Get any old 1/8 buggy roller I can find CHEAP and make it brushless.

Any help? PS im a bit tipsy and I apologize for the continous posts and non-sense! But on a serious note I dont know what to do!

how about a hyper st? 1/8 scale tank.

The hyper ST is really good too, and for $399 you can't go wrong. Depends what you want to do with it. The bigger trucks are a lot of fun, but also more expensive. I like both my trucks for different things, but not sure any are going to be huge ground clearance trucks, but mine bash just fine, and are great on the track for a differnt sort of fun.

That is a sweet crt.5! I dont know what to do now...Hot bodies ls10 or the crt.5 and extend/widen it....

Do both trucks use cross pin drive for the wheels? I think I read the ls10 uses 14mm hexes...think my integy 17mm adaptors (meant for rustler/stampede axles) will fit on either of these trucks? I would like to run 1/8 buggy wheels and my set of ofna blazer SST tires (about 4.25 inches tall and 2.25 inches wide)

ls10 is pin drive stock, but can use 12mm, 14mm, or 17mm hexs

but what about the axle diameter? For instance I cannot put tmaxx 14mm hexes on my rustler as the axle on the rusty is smaller (would be sloppy).

Are there hexes that directly fit the axles on the ls10, or do you need adaptors for the different sizes?

That is what i use on my rustler. I have two packages of them, as my rustler (like these trucks) have equal length a-arms (I widened mine) so it would look dumb with two different offset adaptors! I use all 4 smaller ones, as the longer ones are just too damn long (they are like 1 1/4 inch...the smaller are like 3/4 inch).

So think I can use 4 of these smaller ones on either the ls10 or the crt.5 axles to run my 17mm wheels? Should help give me some more width as long as the axle diameters are the same between the crt.5/ls10 and rustler.

Should work fine.

ok cool. thanks!

Now to decide on a truck! lol... I am thinking the extended chassis crt.5 would be good once I put those wheel adaptors on it with some bigger tires.
